Book 2:Chapter 52
Danae
I had always believed I would die without ever finding my mate.

It wasn’t something I feared, it was something I had accepted. Until the day everything changed. The day I realized that the very monster my brother Julio had created… was my destined mate.
And in that moment, I hated it.
I hated the choice the Moon Goddess made for me.
It happened on a normal day, at least, it started that way. I had been called into my brother’s office for a discussion, nothing unusual. But the moment I stepped into the hallway leading to his office, everything shifted.
A scent. Sweet. Overwhelming.
It wrapped around me instantly, filling my senses in a way nothing ever had before. My wolf stirred violently, then screamed the word that made my entire body go cold.
Mate.
“The Alpha is in there with Mr. Gabe,” the secretary said, unaware of the storm rising inside me. But he said he wanted to see you regardless.”
My head snapped toward her as a cold sweat broke across my skin.
“How many people are in the office?” I asked, my voice tighter than I intended.
“It is just the Alpha and Mr. Gabe, madam,” she replied politely.
My stomach dropped. No, it couldn’t be.
Out of everyone… him?
Not everyone knew who Gabe truly was, but I did. That man wasn’t just dangerous-he was something worse. Something broken. A weapon my brother had shaped with his own hands.
And now I was supposed to be bound to him?
With everything happening in the pack, with enemies lurking and tensions rising, the last thing I
needed was a mate like him.
And why now?
I was long past eighteen. I had seen him countless times before, crossed paths with him more

than enough, yet never-not once-had I felt anything close to a bond.
No spark. No pull. Nothing.
In fact, I couldn’t stand him.
So why now of all times?

As I walked toward the office, my mind settled on one thing. I would pretend I felt nothing. And when I got him alone… I would reject him.
I refused to be tied to a man like that.
A killer. A man who enjoyed breaking people, who took pleasure in pain and fear. The rejected son of his family, hated even by his own father. A man who had grown into exactly what the world had
labeled him.
He wasn’t meant for someone like me.
I pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The scent hit me harder this time-stronger, suffocating. It wrapped around me, pulling at something deep within, something I struggled to keep buried.
And I could feel it. His gaze locked on me.
But I didn’t look at him.
I walked straight to my brother.
“Hey, big sis. Sorry for calling you so abruptly,” Julio said with a grin, completely unaware of the
tension choking the room.
“It’s fine. What do you need me for?” I asked, taking the seat across from him, carefully ignoring the man standing at his side.
“Since you’re the brains, I wanted you to check this. Tell me if I’m making the right choice.”
He tossed a file toward me, and I caught it, grateful for the distraction. But even as I opened it, I could still feel Gabe’s eyes on me-steady, unreadable, and far too intense.
Strangely… he hadn’t said a word.
I went through the documents carefully, forcing my focus onto the contents, but my mind refused to cooperate. The bond tugged at me relentlessly, making it harder to think clearly. A faint frown formed on my face before I even realized it.
“Is it that bad?” Julio asked, concern lacing his voice.

He thought my reaction was about the file.
I shook my head slightly. “No. I must say… you’re actually getting smarter.”
His face lit up instantly, like a child receiving praise.
“You know it’s hard to get compliments from you,” he said playfully.
I allowed a small smile. “Whatever you say.”

I stood up quickly, needing to leave before the tension overwhelmed me completely. The room félt
too small, too suffocating.
“If that’s all, I have something to attend to. You know you can call me anytime.”
He nodded, but before I could leave, he started coughing.
My brows furrowed immediately.
“Are you still feeling ill?” I asked, concern slipping through despite everything else.
He had been like this for a while now-coughing, headaches, and nothing seemed to help.
“Oh, don’t worry,” he said, brushing it off. “I’ll be fine.”
But I wasn’t convinced.
“You should take care of it,” I said lightly, trying to ease the tension, “You don’t want to turn your
wife into a widow and a single mother.”
He laughed.
“Don’t worry, sister. Nothing can kill me.”
I smiled faintly, but something about his words didn’t sit right.
And then-I made a mistake.
I looked up.
My eyes met Gabe’s.
The world seemed to still for a second, but his expression didn’t change. His gaze remained just
as it had been, cold, detached… controlled. The kind of look only someone like him could wear so
naturally.
Beautiful, dangerous and wrong.
I broke the eye contact immediately, lowering my gaze.
