Chapter 59
Aina
I woke to find Osborne’s side of the bed empty. Seriously? Did he forget this was supposed to be
our honeymoon?
Then it hit me, crashing down like a wave-the memories of last night. Honeymoon? Did I forget
what had happened? My mood plummeted.
I needed answers, and I needed them now. I jumped out of bed and went straight to the bathroom. No wasting time, not even a second.
By the time I finished getting ready, I had already decided. I picked up my phone and called my mom. I knew things must be hard for her, facing my dad after everything, but I didn’t care. I needed
to know the truth.
“Mom,” I said when she picked up.
“Aina,” her voice cracked on the line. “I’ll be coming to you today-no, we will.”
Hearing how broken she sounded left me speechless.
“Okay, Mom. I’ll be waiting,” I said quietly, and the line went dead.
A knock at the door startled me. “Come in,” I called.
A maid entered, head bowed. “The Alpha requests your presence in his study.” she says politely.
“Okay. Take me there,” I said, nodding my head as I arranged my hair.
Good. He had some explaining to do too. It takes two to make a baby.
I followed the maid down the hall to the Alpha’s study. Without hesitation, I pushed the door open
and walked in.
He was seated at his desk, looking like two years had been carved out of him overnight.
“Alpha Owen,” I said evenly, forcing my voice calm, because honestly, he looked like hell.
“Ah, Aina… please sit down.” He didn’t even seem to notice me entering. His smile was weak.
I sat across from him. “How are you feeling?” he asked.
“Confused. That’s all,” I replied smoothly.
He studied me for a moment. “You can be sincere with me. As it stands now, I’m at your mercy.”
My eyes widened. “Mercy?”

He let out a dry, bitter laugh. “Yes. My wife said if you don’t forgive me after I apologize, then she
won’t either.”
I hiccupped, stunned. “Apologize? For what?”
Silence hung heavy before he finally spoke.
“I know yesterday must have been a shock to you. It was to me too-at least partly. Yes, your
mother was my mate. No, I didn’t know we had a child. And yes…” He paused, steadying himself.
“…I hurt your mother in a very stupid way.”
“How?” My tone was flat, but my pulse was racing.
“I left her,” he said quietly. “I didn’t tell her I was going to marry Olivia. That very night, I left her, I
marked Olivia and we wedded in front of our parents.”
I felt
my
stomach twist. My mother… what had she endured?
“And when I did,” he continued, “she reached out to me through so many ways,” he paused as if
weighing his next words “But I never gave her the chance to talk or even write back.”
You bastard, I wanted to spit.
“Because I thought that was the best thing to do,” he said, stopping when he saw the irritation
evident on my face.
“And how did you reject her then?” I asked, my voice still even but colder.
He met my eyes without flinching. “With a letter.”
I froze completely. That wasn’t just stupid. That was heartless. Selfish. My Osborne would never do something like that. Never. Who the hell was Alpha Owen? Was this really the father of my
husband?
I couldn’t speak another word. I was dumbfounded. The irritation inside me bubbled beyond
anything words could express. A letter? That’s how he ended things with my mother? Now I
understand. If I had been in her shoes, I would have done the same-maybe even worse.
In fact, if it were me, I don’t think I would’ve carried his child for nine months and brought her into the world. I would have ended it right there, rather than tie myself to a man capable of something so cruel. But then again… maybe there was something, just something small, that could have
redeemed him, that could have freed him from being this heartless.
“And why did you do that?” I asked finally, my voice sharper than I intended. “Ghosting my mom, I
mean. Why?”
For a moment he was silent, then he sighed heavily. “It came as a shock to me that I was

betrothed. And as the future Alpha, it was my duty to form alliances for the pack. My father knew
what had to be done, and that was through marriage.”
Oh, I see.
“Initially, I didn’t want to,” he continued, his eyes downcast. “But for my people, I did. I married her. And along the way… I fell in love with my wife.”
I clenched my jaw. I didn’t need to hear about him falling in love-not when that love cost my mother
everything.
“I see,” I murmured instead.
He looked at me blankly, waiting, almost afraid.
“You asked me to be sincere,” I said, steadying myself. “So I’ll speak my mind.”
