Chapter 78

“Oh.” That was the only word that left my lips.

“Well,” my father said with a chuckle, “we thought it was for the best. Your mother and I plan to

settle somewhere peaceful while you both handle the pack’s affairs.”

I nodded slowly, a small smile tugging at my mouth. “And it seems someone’s happy to hand over

the responsibilities,” I teased, and his laughter filled the room.

“Well, my son is all grown now, with a Luna by his side,” he said proudly. “I know that whatever challenges come, you’ll both face them together. It’s the right time, Osborne.”

I agreed with him; truthfully, I had been managing most of the pack matters already. My eyes shifted to Aina, sitting poised and graceful beside me-my perfect Luna.

“Are you certain you’re ready for the responsibilities, Aina?” my mother asked gently.

Aina gave a nervous laugh, brushing her hair behind her ear. “I’m not entirely sure,” she admitted softly, “but at least I know I can always call you for advice.”

My mother chuckled. “Always, dear,” she assured her.

I reached for Aina’s hand, giving it a firm, reassuring squeeze. I knew how heavy this moment was for her, but she wasn’t alone. Marrying me meant sharing the weight of the pack, standing beside

me as my Luna-my queen.

And so, word spread across the lands about the coronation of a new Alpha and Luna of the Silver Crest Pack. Being one of the most powerful in the North, the news traveled fast, stirring whispers

and expectations.

A new era was dawning. A new beginning for Silver Crest.

And the question lingered in every heart-would their reign surpass the last?

Somewhere in Dawn Pack

Bella

I have been sold. The thought alone left a bitter taste in my mouth. My own father sold me off-not

to some noble or kind-hearted man, but to someone who couldn’t care less if I lived or died.

Why did he marry me in the first place if he intended to treat me like this? To leave me locked away, alone every day, with no one to talk to, no one to care whether I breathed or not.

The only time anyone entered this room was to bathe me or drop off my meals. That was it.

This was all Osborne’s fault. He should have claimed me when he had the chance. Maybe then, wouldn’t be trapped here, wasting away in silence.

Or perhaps it was my own doing-my greed, my foolishness. If I hadn’t done what I did, would I still be Bella Maxwell, proud and untouchable? Would I still have my life, my dignity, my strength?

While they lived in happiness, I lived in misery. Sometimes, I wished Osborne had just killed me when he had the chance. Death would have been far kinder than this.

The door suddenly swung open. My husband-the man I hadn’t seen in weeks-walked in as though he owned the air I breathed. His expression was calm, yet every word that left his mouth was designed to cut.

“I heard,” he began casually, “that the man you were so obsessed with has been crowned Alpha.”

My heart stopped. The room spun. I hadn’t even known what was happening in the outside world,

and now… this.

He was watching me closely, that cruel glint in his eyes, savoring my pain.

“Are you going to cry?” he asked, his tone mockingly gentle as he stepped closer. “Don’t cry, Bella. You’re mine now. And seeing you cry for another man…”-his voice dropped, dark and chilling-“…will only make me angry.”

A shiver ran down my spine. His hand grazed my cheek, and his lips curled into a slow, possessive

smile.

“Good,” he murmured, his thumb tracing my jaw. “If you ever cry again, make sure it’s for me. Do you understand?”

Before I could speak, his mouth crashed down onto mine-harsh, claiming, suffocating. I didn’t want to kiss him, didn’t want to feel his touch, but I had no choice.

As his lips pressed harder against mine, I closed my eyes and thought of my father. Of the man who sold me like a piece of property.

I hated him.

I hated him more than anyone.

And I would carry that hatred until my last breath.

But not all things are as they seemed.

Although Alpha Hamilton’s new son-in-law had helped him in more ways than one, the tides within the Waterford Pack were beginning to shift-and not in the way he expected.

I had wondered, more than once, why he agreed so easily. Why would a man of his status pay such a ridiculous amount of money for my crippled daughter. When I placed that call, I expected hesitation, perhaps even negotiation-but no, he’d accepted immediately. Not only that, he’d wired the funds before the ink on the marriage papers had even dried.

And I’d convinced myself it was a blessing. The best decision I could make-for Bella, for myself especially, and for the stability of my pack.

Sitting back in my chair, I crossed one leg over the other and took a slow sip of tea, savoring the

calm. Yes, I told myself again, this was for the best. The pack would soon recover. We would rise

again.

But before I could draw my next breath, a sharp pain ripped through my chest.

It was sudden, burning, relentless. I gasped, clutching at my shirt as the teacup slipped from my

hand and shattered on the floor.

“Someone-water,” I croaked, struggling to breathe. “I need… water!”

The door creaked open, footsteps echoing toward me. Relief washed over me-until I saw who it

was.

A familiar face. A face I’d never expected to see standing before me,what was he doing here? He

should be with his mother, my bastard.

But he was smiling. Not with warmth, but with the cruel amusement of a wolf toying with its prey.

“Do you need water, Father?” he asked mockingly, voice dripping with venom.

My knees buckled, the pain intensifying until I collapsed to the floor, gasping for air.

“I don’t think there’s anyone here to bring you water,” he continued, stepping closer. “Not after what you did to me and my mother.”

I stared up at him, my vision blurring, the sound of my heart pounding against my ribs. I wanted to speak, to cuss him-but no words came.

He crouched beside me, his voice low and cold. “You deserve this.”

Then, before my world went dark, I heard him call out, his tone suddenly calm and composed.
