“I take it that you’re Shayla?” I ask her but she doesn’t say anything, instead she looks to Alpha Thomas.

“It’s ok Shayla, this is Alpha Bowers, you can talk to him, he has some questions for you.” He tells her.

“Yes I’m Shayla.” She says as she takes a seat on the couch opposite me.

“Well it’s nice to meet you Shayla, before I ask you my questions, I want to make it clear that you are not in any trouble, I just need some answers from you, do you understand?” I ask her and she nods her head.

“Ok, do you know a young man by the name of Jeremy Lancaster?” I ask her and I can see the shock in her eyes and again she turns to Alpha Thomas.

“It’s ok Shayla, like he said you’re not in any trouble just tell the truth, tell him what he needs to know.” Alpha Thomas tells her and then she nods her head and looks at me, tears welled up in her eyes.

“Yes I knew him.” She says and I don’t point out how she used knew which meant that she knew he was dead.

“How exactly did you know him?” I asked her.

Tears roll down her face and she tries to talk but a sob is caught in her throat. Natalie gets up and goes to her side and she hugs her side.

“It’s ok, there’s no rush, just take your time.” Natalie tells her and the scene, it just, it shows me another side to her, even though she tries her best to put up a strong front, she really is so caring.

Shayla wipes the tears from her eyes. “He was the love of my life.” She answers me.

“So I take it you already know of his demise since you keep on referring to him in the past.” I tell her.

“Yes, I know.” She says.

“I am sorry for your loss Shayla but I do need your help so I can find who killed him. Now I’ve already talked to his parents and they said that about a month ago, he got a job that came with all this benefits but you and I know that isn’t the whole story right?” I ask her and she slowly nods her head.

“Ok, how about you tell me what really happened?” I ask her.

“We were happy, we were together, he had big dreams and I knew that one day he would accomplish them and I never rushed him or anything. I loved him and all I wanted was him, but then about two months ago my father came to me and told me that it was time for me to fulfill my duty to the pack by getting married and he was already in talks about it.

It wasn’t the first time he had brought something like that up, so I thought he was just joking or trying to light a fire under me so I’ll get married. But then, a week later, my betrothed Liam came to the house with his parents and then it was announced that we would be engaged by this month.

I tried to reason with my father but he didn’t want to hear it, he said that I had to do my part, to strengthen the pack. So then I told him about Jeremy and he actually laughed in my face and said no child of his would get married to a nobody.

So that night I ran to Jeremy and told him what was happening and I told him that we should run away and I didn’t care where we went as long as I was with him. But then he told me that we couldn’t do that, that running away had to be a last resort. He said that he would find a way and I should trust him and so I

did.

Two weeks later he came to me saying that he got a job and it came with all these benefits and the money he was going to get, I mean it set off alarm bells in my head and so I questioned him about it and he finally spilled. He did get a job at the hotel but that wasn’t where the money was coming from, he said that he ran into a friend of his that he hasn’t seen in a while and this friend told him about a company that was trying to make drugs for shifters and they just needed test subjects.

Not anything bad, they’ll just draw blood and give them some drugs and all they had to do was report how the drug made them feel. I didn’t like it but he told me to just trust him and I did. A week after that he came with this huge paycheck and he was so excited, he rented an apartment and he said once he had everything set up, he was going to come and meet my dad and even if he didn’t accept us, we would run away together because now he had the money to take care of me.

“When was the last time you talked to him exactly?” I ask her.

“Last week or so, but the call was rushed, he said that he was going in for another test and he would call me when he was done but he never did.” She tells me.

“Did he tell you the name of this company or where exactly these experiments were taking place? Anything at all.” I ask her.

“He said they were called The Nox Group but I tried looking them up but nothing came up. He didn’t tell me where they took them for the tests.” She says.

“His apartment that he got, do you know where it is?” I ask her.

“Yes, it’s one of those new high rises in the city, he had the penthouse.” She tells me and I’m shocked.

“Thank you so much Shayla, you’ve been a great help.” I tell her.

“Shawn, please escort Shayla back to her place.” Alpha Thomas tells his grandson. He takes her hand and the both of them leave.

“Well it seems while I was sick my Beta took it upon himself to make some decisions that I wouldn’t make.

He says.

“You’re not going to let her get married are you?” Natalie asks him.

“Be rest assured that wedding is not going to happen.” He tells her and she smiles.
