Chapter 33
NATALIE.
Samuel’s gaze darkened, and I could see the faint outline of his veins under his shirt, his pulse was rapid.
“It looks like he has an important place in your heart” He says.
“Obviously. I call him Sweetheart,” I sigh and it’s taking everything in me not to laugh right now. I know I should explain to him and clear up this whole misunderstanding, but it feels so good to mess with him.
Xavier and Clayton were the two most important people in my life. I was willing to give up anything for them.
Samuel’s gaze turned cold. “If you have an opportunity to meet someone next time, what kind of man would sweep you off your feet, Ms. Edmund?” He asks.
The question catches me off guard and I remained silent.
I sensed that he was unhappy, but I wasn’t sure of the reason, I mean it couldn’t be because of me right? Was he asking that question for himself? This was all so confusing, he was a confusing man.
I mean, I was still wearing the hyper–realistic mask that was ugly enough to make people avoid me. Was he really jealous? Was that why he was unhappy?
“I’ve never really thought about it. Thank you for the ride Alpha Bowers.” I tell him and then I immediately get down from the car and I don’t look back, I open the door to the house and close it behind me and when I hear his car pull out of the driveway, I let out a sigh and slide down the door.
The house is quiet, which means the boys must be at the neighbours house. Which is a good thing, because with the call last night to Xavier and them thinking that Samuel is their father, it won’t be a good idea for them to see him dropping me off.
But what was that in the car, I mean I was just playing with him but he was really jealous and unhappy and then that question he asked. That’s enough games though, if I want to help Sophia, I need things between me and her father to be at least cordial, so the next time I see him I’ll explain the whole misunderstanding.
I got up from the floor and I went into the bathroom, The first thing I did when I got in there was to take off the mask.

Although it was made to look indistinguishable from a real face, ultimately, it was still a mask. Wearing it day and night made me feel stifled. I replaced it with a hydrating sheet mask and f took of my clothes and replaced them with some comfortable lounge wear.
I was ready to sit and relax on the couch and watch some TV, but as I got the living room. I found the boys coming in and they both ran to me and gave me a hug.
“My boys, did you have fun at Mrs. Clarkes?” I ask them.
“Yeah.” Xavier said.
“Uh huh.” Clayton mumbled, all his attention was on his IPad. If he weren’t so smart, I would take all his screens away from him, but he’s smart and he’s a good boy and he dies well in school, so I let him have it.
“I don’t have to go in to work today, so how about we spend the day together?” I ask them. “Yeah, that sounds great.” Xavier says as he makes his way over to the kitchen.
“Can we go to the store?” Clayton asks as he looks up at me and for just a second, it’s like I’m looking at Franklin but then I blink my eyes and it’s Clayton again.
“Yeah, sure sweetie, we can go to the store.” I tell him.
“Thanks mum.” He says and then he makes his way over to the his chair and continues with his
game.
I myself laid down on the couch and J put some chessy soap opera on the TV to watch. Xavier brought an iced coke and sat down beside me. He stared at me with wide eyes and I knew he was about to ask me a question, probably about last night.
“Mommy, could you tell us what our stepdad is like?”
Well, he went straight to it, I knew he was referring to Samuel, but I decided to act like I didt’t know what he was talking about.
“What… What stepdad?”
“I heard his voice on the phone last night! Don’t treat me like a dumb three–year–old!” Five- year–old Xavier looked as if he understood everything, of course I just had to have kids that were smarter beyond their age.
“Clayton and I have always been very supportive of your relationship, we don’t want you to be alone, but… I have a small request. Stepdad has to at least be on the same level as Samuel!”

Chapter 33
* Fine Co
I was caught completely off guard. I choked on my drink and started coughing aggressively.
“What does this have to do with Samuel?”
“If our stepdad is worse than Samuel, then you might as well choose Samuel.” He continued, “Sure, you don’t really know him yet. But with your real appearance and help from Clayton and me, I believe that you can get him and it’s a huge plus that Clayton and I look like him.” He adds that last part but I know what he’s trying to say is that it’s a huge plus that he’s their real father.
I felt a shiver down her spine, why couldn’t they just let this go?
Could I tell him that I actually knew Samuel? And that I actually stayed at the Bowers residence last night?
Glancing at the little boy’s cute, elated expression, I decided against it for the time being. “Why don’t we head to the store and you guys can pick whatever you want.” I tell them and that immediately distracted him from his line of questioning.
Unfortunately for me, the one supermarket that had everything the boys needed was close to that Moon Shadow Pack territory, but I took the risk because I knew that my sister or anyone knew me, wasn’t going to be caught in a supermarket. I’m pretty sure they didn’t even do their own shopping.
That’s how spoilt they were.
We got to the supermarket and I gave the boys their own basket that they could fill with whatever they needed, while I shopped around for things that we needed at the house.
I also picked up some of my cravings. Wanting to eat tomato basil soup, I picked out the soup base and some other ingredients and then we wandered the rest of the aisles.
There was a chubby salesman organizing the products, and I didn’t want to get in his way. I pushed my shopping cart back by a few steps. Just then, I accidentally stepped on another woman’s white shoe.
“Ah!” A cry of surprise was followed quickly by the woman’s shrill voice. “Can’t you see where you’re going?”
I was at fault, being the one who suddenly moved backward. I didn’t even see the other party’s face before I started apologizing profusely. “Sorry! I’m sorry! I really didn’t mean to! Are you hurt?”

Although I apologized, the woman didn’t calm down at all. Instead, she lashed out even more
“You don’t seem blind, despite how hideous you look! What do you mean you didn’t mean it? I bet it was intentional!”
She continued, “What’s the point of apologizing anyway? Do you have any idea how much this pair of shoes cost? They’re more valuable than your life!”
The more the woman spoke, the more familiar the sound of her voice was. I looked up carefully.
NO, no way this is happening. I can’t get any unluckier than this.
