The Alpha's Four Hidden Heirs (Natalie and Samuel) novel Chapter 8

Natalie

I'm busy with the autopsy when Effie informs me that there's a call for me and it's the chief of police. He's probably calling to see if I have anything for him. I do have something actually, but I can't tell him yet, I have to be sure.

I take the phone from Effie after taking off my gloves. “Yes sir.” I answer.

“Natalie, how are things going?” He asks me.

“So far so good, I should have some answers for you in the next few hours.” I tell him.

“That's good to hear, I have no regrets in hiring you Natalie.” He tells me.

“Thank you sir.” I tell him.

“But there is another reason why I called you.” He tells me.

“Really? Did more bodies show up?” I asked him.

“No, no, it's not relating to the case.” He tells me and immediately I get suspicious.

“Ok, what is it then?” I asked him.

“It's about Samuel Bowers, he told me that he stopped by to see you and you declined seeing him.” He tells me.

“Yes sir, but I didn't actually decline, I said I would see him when I wasn't busy. I had the bodies to get to, or is that not what is more important?” I asked him.

“Of course Natalie, of course, cracking this case matters, but you also have to understand that Mr. Bowers isn't a man that you say no to. His pack is very respected in this city and they do a lot for us and if all he wants is a meeting it wouldn't hurt to go and see him.” He tells me and I have a feeling that this isn't something that I can get out of.

“Of course sir, I understand, let me just give my lab techs some instructions and I'll leave to do see Mr. Bowers.” I tell him.

“Good, thank you so much for understanding Natalie, I'll send you his office address.” He says and then he hangs up the call.

I did not sign up for this at all, all I wanted to do was get done with this autopsy and go home to my boys, but now I have to go and see some rich asshole who thinks he's better than everyone else.

I take a deep breath and get my anger under control because I can feel my wolf and she's more than ready to come out and strike.

I make my way back into the lab to talk to Effie and Brandon. “That was the chief on the phone, there's somewhere else that I need to be but I'll be back. While I'm gone Brandon, continue doing what you're doing but Effie I'm going to need you to take a swab and check it against salt water.” I tell her.

“Of course boss, do you have a reason behind this test?” She asks me.

“Yes I do, but run the test first, when we get the result then I'll explain.” I tell her.

“Ok, is that all, do you need me to do anything else?” She asks me.

“No, that's it, I'll be back soon.” I tell them and I look at Brandon so he knows not to do anything stupid while I'm gone.

“Uhmmm boss, can I ask you something personal?” Effie asks me.

What is this? And I was just starting to like her. “You can ask, but I don't promise to answer you.” I tell her.

“That's fine, thank you.” I tell her aand just as I'm about to turn around and leave, I hear someone call my name.

“Miss. Edmund.” I turn around and see Billy, the man that stopped me at my office walking over to me.

“You're here.” He says when he gets to my front.

“Yes, well I didn't have much choice in the matter.” I tell him and he looks shocked, I have a feeling that this man isn't surrounded by people that speak their mind that's why he always looks shocked anytime that I speak.

“Well all that matters is that you're here now, come with me, I'll take you to see Mr. Bowers.” He tells me.

I follow closely behind him and we both enter a different elevator than what other people are using.

“This elevator takes us straight to Mr. Bowers floor.” He tells me, he must've seen the confusion on my face.

“Ok, but why don't you call him Alpha?” I ask him.

“Mr. Bowers insist that those of us wolves that work here don't refer to him as Alpha when we are in a work environment.” He tells me.

I just nod my head and we both wait in silence until the elevator doors open and we step out. It looks like there are only two offices on this floor and one of them must be Samuels. I follow Billy as we walk to the office on the right hand side. He knocks and there's a reply to come in and then he opens the door and we both step in.

“Mr. Bowers, Miss. Edmund is here to see you.” Billy announces.

Samuel proceeds to turn around amd he has a smirk on his face. “Well, it's nice to finally meet you Miss. Edmund.”
