Natalie-

“You can leave Billy.” Samuel tells Billy, no thank you or anything, rude.

Billy actually bows his head before he turns around and leaves.

“Please take a scat Miss. Edmund.” He tells me as he points to a chair.

I walk towards the chair and sit down and I put my bag down by my leg, I’m thinking that he’ll sit on his chair on the other side of the desk but he surprises me when he takes the seat opposite me.

“So, Mr. Bowers, what is so important that it couldn’t wait, that you had to go over my head and talk to my boss?” I asked him.

“Why do I get the feeling that you’ve judged me before even meeting me?” He asks me and it takes me aback at how easily he read me.

“It’s not you, it’s people like you.” I tell him.

“What do you mean by people like me?” He asks ad he leans back on his chair.

“People with power and money, that feel like they can get away with anything that they want and they use there power recklessly, like how you used yours to get me here.” I tell him.

“I see, now what would you say if I did the same thing that you just did.” He asks me.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“You made up your mind about me before even meeting me because you have this misguided concept about people with money and power. If I were to turn it around and let’s say a poor person who leaves down in the ghetto, comes to me for a job. Would it be fair of me to judge me from whence he came and just assume that he or she can’t be trusted?” He asked me.

“I, it’s not the same thing.” I tell him but even I know that my argument is weak.

“Actually it is the same thing and you know it. Now back to why I wanted to see you, I wanted to find out what kind of woman you are and I have to say, I am not impressed at all.” He tells me and I don’t know why but his worda affect me.

“Why do you want to find out what kind of woman I am, we’ve never met.” I tell him.

“That is true, but you have met someone very dear to me.” He tells me.

“That’s not possible, I just got into the city yesterday, I would remember meeting someone from the Bowers family.” I tell him.

“Yeah, you met her at the airport.” He tells me and immediately my mind goes to the little girl.

“Sophia?” I asked him.

“That’s right, Sophia is my daughter and the man that was with her, that’s my brother Steven. Now you can imagine my surprise when my daughter comes home looking so sad and when I ask my brother what happens he says that it’s because of you and then the biggest shock of all, my daughter who hasn’t spoken for one day in her life since she’s been born, she meets you for the first time and she speaks but not only does she speak she calls you mummy. So you see I had to meet the woman that did that and see what she had that was so different, but meeting you today, I’m not sure that you’re someone I want around my daughter Miss Edmund.” He tells me.

It was clear to me how much he loved his daughter, I mean the love and protectiveness was written all over his face. I immediately felt so bad, I let my history and my bias against rich people cloud my judgement.

“I do apologise for how I’ve acted since we met Mr. Burrows, it’s just that I’ve had a very bad relationship when it comes to the rich and powerful, also Alpha’s like yourself and I’m sorry for judging you before even meeting you. I met Sophie and just the few minutes we spent together I could tell that she had a very innocent and kind soul.” I tell him.

“Yes she does, she’s a sweet girl. I accept your apology Miss. Edmund.” He tells me.

“So did you just want to meet with me, or was there something else?” I asked him.

“Tell me about yourself.” He tells me and immediately alarm bells ring in my head, but I take a deep breath because I’ve prepared for this, I have a reharsed story that I tell people and it’s that exact story that they’ll find out if they decide to do some digging.

“There’s not much to tell, my name is Natalie Edmund, I’m an only child, I grew up in Denver, I never knew my father and I lost my mother when I just turned eighteen. I went through a rebellious stage after she died and I ended up pregnant and that was the wake up call that I needed. I enrolled back into school, I went to school through my pregnancy and the boys came at the right time, they came at the start of summer break, so I had three months rest and by the time school resumed I was able to enroll them into a training center for young wolves. So that was it, my boys, school and work, I interned at the morgue and when I graduated top of my class, I was lucky enough to have a job waiting for me.” I tell him and he looks shocked, I can tell, even though he does his best to hide it.

“You’re a mum?” He asks me.

“Yes, I am, I have two boys, Xavier and Clayton.” I tell him.

“How old are they?” He asks me.

“They’re five years old.” I tell him and he smiles a little.

“Same age as mine.” He tells me.

“It’s not just Sophia?” I asked him.

“No, she has a twin brother, his name is Franklin.” He tells me.

“What are the odds.” I say.

“I know, it’s uncanny, but I actually do need your help Miss Edmunds.”
