It’s not. It’s justexpected. You walk like you own every room.

Lucas smirked. I do own several of them.

I rolled my eyes and turned toward the window, trying not to let myself smile.

When he dropped me off at my apartment, I mumbled a thankyou and bolted upstairs. My nerves were frayed, and my mind was still replaying Isa’s

warning.

Naia was on the couch, wrapped in a blanket with a bowl of popcorn. She looked up as I walked in.

Hey! So, how was the hairy crowd?

I kicked off my heels and dropped onto the couch beside her, exhaling hard. Weird.

She paused her show. Spill.

There was a girl there,I began. Isa. She recognized the mark on my collarbone.

Naia’s brows shot up. Wait. The one that randomly showed up?

I nodded. She said her grandmother told her stories about it. Ancient stuff. She looked freaked outlike, terrified. Said I wasn’t safe. And then she ran off

before I could ask anything else.

Did she give you any contact info?

No. Nothing. Just her name.

Naia frowned. That’s suspicious as hell.

Tell me about it,I muttered. And I don’t know how to find her. She didn’t leave anything behind.

Naia sat up straighter, suddenly focused. Okay. We’ll figure this out. Isa’s her name. Dark hair, right?

Yeah. Big eyes. Kinda anxious.

Naia reached for her laptop. “Give me a couple of hours. I’ll check the guest lists, run some facial scans from the party footage if Lucas has surveillance.

Someone must know who she is.

I stared at her. You’re amazing.

I know.She cracked her knuckles. But you owe me tacos.

Deal.

I leaned back, rubbing my forehead.

That mark. That party. That fear.

What was I?
