The Mafia Alpha’s Luna
We leave at dawn.
Damian’s voice kept replaying in my head like a broken record I
couldn’t shake. I sat stiffly on the edge of the bed while Evelyn
practically tore through the wardrobe like a woman possessed,
flinging dresses onto the mattress like we were escaping a war
instead of going on a luxury trip.
Which, honestly, maybe wasn’t that far off.
“Do you like silk?” she asked without looking at me.
I blinked. “What?”
Evelyn held up a deep emerald gown that looked like it cost more
than my old apartment. “Italy’s fashion game is no joke. Cotton’s a
crime.”
I stared at the dress like it might bite me. “Do they arrest you for
denim?”

“Only if you pair it with sneakers.”
Mira snorted from her spot on the bed, casually folding lingerie that
definitely wasn’t mine. “You’re going to love Italy,” she said. “It’s full
of chaos and men who think they’re gods. You’ll fit right in.”
“Thanks,” I muttered.
I wasn’t sure what unsettled me more–the packing, the fact that I
was flying out with the most dangerous man I’d ever met, or the
growing realization that I wanted to go.
Which was insane. Just a week ago, I was a hostage. Now I was being
fitted for couture and prepped for an international mafia summit.
“I still don’t get why I’m going,” I said out loud.
Evelyn tossed me a pair of heels. “Because you’re Damian’s Luna.”
“I never agreed to that.”
“You didn’t have to.”
I looked down at the shoes. Louboutin. Blood red soles. Literal killer
heels.

“This is too fast,” I whispered.
“You’re not marrying him tomorrow,” Mira said. “You’re standing
beside him while he reminds the Five Families why he’s
untouchable.”
“And I’m… what? Eye candy?”
Evelyn stopped folding. “You’re the fire no one saw coming.”
My throat tightened.
I didn’t feel like fire. I felt like glass–shiny, fragile, and one bad move
away from shattering.
But I nodded anyway.
It was late when I found him again.
I couldn’t sleep. My brain was still tangled up in what–if scenarios
and worst–case spirals. I padded through the halls barefoot, wearing a
silk robe I didn’t remember asking for. My feet led me to the only
place I knew he’d be.
His study.

Chapter 13
The door was cracked open, the warm golden light spilling out like a
secret.
He was bent over the desk, sleeves rolled, shirt half–unbuttoned, dark
hair slightly tousled like he’d been running his hand through it all
night. Maps covered the table, tiny red pins stabbed into cities that
pulsed with danger just by being on the same paper.
He didn’t even flinch when I walked in.
“You’re awake,” he said.
“You gave me a deadline,” I replied. “I figured I should prepare.”
His mouth tilted into a smirk. “Good girl.”
God, I hated how my stomach reacted to that.
I stepped closer. “Why me?”
He didn’t look up. “You want compliments, sweetheart?”
“No. I want the truth.”
That got his attention.

Chapter 13
He looked at me slowly, like I was a puzzle he already solved but still
liked studying. “Because they won’t expect you.”
I frowned. “Expect me to what?”
“To make them nervous.”
I let out a breathy laugh. “I’m not dangerous.”
“Yes,” he said softly, “you are.”
He took a step toward me then, closing the distance with that
predator grace he always had. The air between us shifted–thicker,
hotter, heavier.
“When I look at you, Serene,” he said, voice low, “I remember what
happens when I let my guard down.”
My pulse spiked.
He didn’t touch me.
He didn’t need to.
I felt it anyway.

Chapter 13
“Why take me to Italy?” I asked.
“Because I want you beside me when I remind the world who I am.”
My chest ached.
“And when it’s over?” I asked, heart in my throat. “What happens to
me?”
His eyes darkened.
“You’re not temporary, Serene.”
I swallowed hard.
Then why did I feel like a loaded gun he didn’t know whether to
keep… or use?
The next morning was a blur of motion.
Black SUVs. Armed guards. Mira riding shotgun with a sniper rifle on
her lap like it was her handbag. Evelyn barking orders at men twice
her size. I was ushered into the lead car before I could even take a
