Chapter 44
Her eyes were mine.
No… not mine. But they held the same haunting familiarity. The same
lullaby–sweet ache I had heard in my dreams.
The same woman who appeared in my dream singing that strange
lullaby. The Queen.
Her lips moved soundlessly, mouthing my name like a prayer. Selene.
I stumbled back a step.
“What…?” My voice cracked.
She reached out slowly, her hand pressing gently against the other
side of the mirror’s glass. Her eyes never left mine.
I didn’t know what made me do it–but I lifted my hand too. My palm
met hers through the glass. It didn’t feel like cold glass.
It felt warm.
Alive.

Chapter 44
There was a pull in my chest, like something ancient was calling me
forward. Something buried deep in my blood. A bond. A memory. I
couldn’t stop myself.
The second my fingers met hers, pain shot up my arm like a lightning
strike.
I gasped, yanking my hand back.
I stumbled away from the mirror, clutching my palm. A burning
sensation flared in the center of my hand.
I looked down.
A symbol. Glowing.
An ancient rune I didn’t recognize, carved into my skin like it had
always belonged there. It pulsed softly, matching the rhythm of my
heart.
“What the hell is this-?”
The door slammed open with a deafening crack.
I turned–and everything blurred.

The figure that entered wasn’t human. Wasn’t werewolf. Just… dark.
Shadowed. I couldn’t make out its face. Just black smoke and clawed
hands.
It lunged at me.
I screamed, scrambling backward, but it was too fast.
Its hand wrapped around my throat, shoving me down onto the bed
with a strength that stole the air from my lungs.
“Selene,” it hissed.
The voice was warped and guttural, but I heard it–my name.
Selene.
I clawed at the arm holding me, but my fingers passed through
smoke.
I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t scream. My vision blurred, fading into
red.
Selene.

Selene-
A gasp tore from my throat as I jolted awake, the room around me
shifting violently into focus.
My chest rose and fell in frantic bursts. My throat burned. My hands
trembled.
And Damian was there.
Kneeling beside me, his hands gripping my shoulders, eyes wide with
fear.
“Selene–what the fuck just happened? You were screaming. You
weren’t waking up. What did you see,”
I blinked at him, disoriented.
“It was a dream,” I whispered. “I think. I… I saw her again. The
woman from my dreams. She touched me. And then–then something
else–someone else came. It tried to kill me.”
Damian’s jaw tensed. “Her? You saw her again?who?”

I nodded. “In the mirror this time.”
He didn’t speak. Just looked at me like he was searching for answers
in my face.
I sat up slowly, still shaky.
Then I remembered the pain.
My hand.
I looked down and rolled up the sleeve of my pajama top.
The breath caught in my throat.
