Chapter 65
Naia didn’t stop until we were through a long corridor and out into a
quiet hallway near the back of the ballroom. The noise of the ball
faded behind us, replaced by the heavy beat of my heart. I could
hardly believe it. She was really here–alive. Right in front of me.
She finally turned and faced me.
“Where have you been?” she asked, her voice cracking. “I’ve searched
everywhere for you, Serene.”
I stared at her, stunned, until her arms wrapped tightly around me. I
froze, then slowly hugged her back.
“I’m okay,” I whispered, even as a single tear escaped down my cheek.
“I’m okay.”
We held each other for a long time, years of separation closing in all
at once. I could feel her trembling.
When we finally pulled apart, I looked at her properly. Her hair was longer now, but her eyes were still the same–sharp, thoughtful, and always a little sad. The same Naia I remembered from the village, the
one who used to braid my hair and sneak berries from the market.

“So… what happened?” I asked softly. “After all of that?”
Naia took a deep breath and leaned against the wall.
“Well, I was sold too… to Taurus,” she said, her mouth twisting as she
said the name. “But thankfully, I escaped–with the help of Darius.”
I blinked. “Taurus?” I asked, confused. “The same Taurus that just
whispered something to Damian?”
She nodded, bitterly. “The same. He was cruel, Serene. He wasn’t just
a buyer he was one of the enforcers. The ones who silenced people
who asked too many questions. I barely made it out alive.”
I didn’t know what to say. My chest ached.
“And you?” she asked, studying my face. “You look… good. I saw you
with him. Alpha Damian. And Taurus. What’s going on, Serene?”
I looked down for a moment, then back up, smiling faintly. “I was sold
to Alpha Damian,” I admitted.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. “What?”
“He’s my knight in shining armor,” I said, the words slipping out
before I could stop them.

“What…?” she tried to speak, but she looked like she didn’t recognize
“I’m in love with him, Naia,” I said, my heart pounding. “He’s the best
thing that ever happened to me.”
Naia stepped back, as if I had slapped her.
“What are you even saying?” she asked, her voice rising, hurt flashing
across her face.
“Naia, listen—‘

“No, you listen,” she interrupted, stepping closer. “You have to come
with me. Right now. Darius and the rest of the surviving packs…
they’re waiting. We’ve been hiding, regrouping, trying to survive.”
I froze. The name “Darius” rang in my head. He had been one of my
father’s best warriors. Loyal, Fierce. Protective.
“No,” I said quietly, shaking my head. “No, I can’t. I love Damian,
Naia, I can’t leave him.”
Her eyes melted. I could see the pain in them, the disbelief.
“Is this why you never looked for us?” she asked, voice trembling. “I

should have known better.”
“Naia-”
She scoffed and took a step back. “So you were willing to abandon
your own people for him? Do you even know the amount of damage
Alpha Damian has caused?”
I opened my mouth to argue, but she didn’t let me.
“Everything your father built,” she said, almost spitting the words.
“Everything the blood Moon pack stood for–gone. And now you’re
living in castles with the man responsible.”
My lips parted in shock. “That’s not true,” I whispered.
She laughed bitterly. “Isn’t it? You think it’s a coincidence you were
sold to him? That he’s treating you so well? Open your eyes, Serene.”
I felt like the floor was slipping beneath my feet. My ears rang.
“Naia… he saved me.”
“No,” she said sharply.
Tears clouded my vision. “Why are you saying this to me?”

“Because I risked everything to come here,” she said, her voice
breaking. “I thought I’d find you held against your will. I thought you
were still one of us. But I was wrong.”
“Naia, please-”
“I just realized,” she cut me off, her expression hollow, “you’re not
worth it. I always knew you were a little self–centered, but I thought
the war would’ve changed that. Clearly, it hasn’t.”
“Naia!” I cried, my voice cracking as I stepped forward, reaching for
her. “Don’t say that, please—”
“Why not?” she snapped, yanking her arm away. “You forgot about us.
