Damian returned home just as the sky turned gold.
He looked tired. His tie was loose, shirt half unbuttoned. He tossed his car keys on the hallway table and loosened his collar.
“Mira?” he called out.
She stepped out from the kitchen, her expression unreadable. Calm,
yet distant.
“You’re back,” she said quietly.
“Where’s Serene?” Damian asked, his tone already sharp with
suspicion.
Mira folded her arms, straightening her back. “She went out. Alone.”
He stopped walking. “What?”
“She said she didn’t need your protection,” Mira continued. “Said she
was never your Luna, never marked. Said she could take care of
herself.”

Damian’s jaw tensed.
“She has a point, doesn’t she?” Mira added, her voice flat. “You’ve
done nothing but hurt her.”
“Watch your tone-”
“No. You watch how you treat people,” she snapped, eyes fierce now.
“This place… it’s not a home. Not anymore. Not for me. I’m leaving.”
Damian blinked. “You’re what?”
“I don’t want to be here anymore. I’ll pack my things and go.”
“Mira-”
“No,” she said firmly. “I’ve served you for years. Loyal. Quiet. I
watched everything fall apart. I stayed out of it. But I can’t do this
anymore. I won’t stay and watch her cry herself to sleep every night.”
She turned away, heading to her room without waiting for
permission.
Serene POV
I returned a few hours later, just as the sun dipped behind the trees.

Chapter 80
The house was quiet, but heavy. The kind of silence that warned you
something wasn’t right.
I stepped in, holding the bag of clothes I bought. Nothing too flashy.
Just things that felt like me.
Damian stood in the living room, his arms crossed. His eyes met
mine, dark and unreadable.
“You went out,” he said, voice low.
“Yes,” I replied calmly.
“Without a guard?”
“I don’t need one.”
“And where the hell have you been?”
“Out,” I repeated. “I saw a friend.”
He stepped forward. “Mira’s gone.”
I blinked. “What?”

“She left. Said she couldn’t do this anymore.”
My heart twisted. “Because of me?”
“No,” he snapped. “Because of me. Because this house is turning into
a battlefield.”
I looked down. “Maybe it always was.”
He stared at me. “Do you think this is easy for me, Serene?”
I looked up, my voice sharp. “Did you think it was easy for me when I found out you killed my father?”
He flinched.
“I was building a life here,” I said, tears rising. “I was starting to feel safe. And then everything came crashing down.”
“I didn’t lie to you about who I was,” he said.
“But you hid what you did. That’s worse.”
“I did what I had to do!” he shouted. “It was war. I didn’t know-‘

“Stop!” I snapped. “Stop trying to justify it. My father’s blood is on
your hands.”
We stared at each other, breathing heavily, the air burning between
Then, without warning, Damian stepped forward and grabbed me by
the arms.
“I’m not done with you.”
I struggled. “Let go-”
His lips crashed onto mine. Forceful. Wild. Desperate.
I pushed him back with all the strength I had. “Get off me!”
His chest rose and fell, his eyes dark with emotions I couldn’t read.
“You son of a b*tch,” I whispered, wiping my mouth, shaking.
“You still feel something,” he said, voice raw. “Don’t lie.”
I turned and stormed away, heart pounding so hard it made my ears
ring.

Chapter 80
I slammed the bedroom door shut and locked it behind me.
My chest ached.
Mira was gone. She was the only one in this house who ever made it
feel human. And now she had walked away from it all.
I sank to the floor, hugging my knees, letting the tears fall.
My life used to be simple. Peaceful.
A girl with dreams.
A girl with a home.
A girl with a father.
Now?
I was crying in the house of the man who ruined everything I loved.
I hated myself for the truth I couldn’t hide anymore.
I was still in love with him.
Chapter 80
I didn’t want to be.
I couldn’t be.
But the way my heart hurt when he looked at me… the way my chest
ached when I remembered how he used to hold me–it wasn’t
something I could erase.
And that was the worst part of it all.
