Chapter 92
Serene’s POV
It had been a week since my first day at Draven Industries, and
somehow, I was still standing. More than that, I was beginning to feel
a strange, unfamiliar thing–like maybe I belonged here, at least a
little.
Some days were still a mess. I spilled coffee, sent emails to the wrong
people, or had no idea what anyone was talking about in meetings.
But then there were days like today–a day with laughter, strange conversations, and the feeling that maybe things could get better.
The morning started with Naia bustling around our apartment, humming a tune while she brewed coffee strong enough to wake the dead. I slung an oversized sweater over my shoulders and shuffled
into the kitchen.
“You’re up early,” I muttered, rubbing sleep from my eyes.
“Can’t waste the day,” she said with a grin, sliding a steaming mug
into my hands. “Besides, we have to talk.”
“About?” I blinked, raising an eyebrow.

She sat down, eyes twinkling. “You don’t want to be late for work.
When you get back”
I braced myself. Naia always knew how to make things complicated
when I least expected it.
Later, after I’d managed to survive my day at the office without any
disasters worse than usual, Naia and I headed to the park.
The sun was warm and lazy, the kind of afternoon that begged for doing nothing but lying on the grass and watching clouds drift by.
Naia and I found a quiet spot in the city park–not too crowded, just
enough to hear laughter and the distant bark of a dog.
She spread a blanket on the grass while I kicked off my shoes, feeling
the grass tickle my bare feet.
“Okay,” Naia said, sitting down and crossing her legs like she owned
the place, “spill. What’s really going on with you?”
I groaned, flopping back and staring up at the sky. “What do you
mean? I’m fine.”
Naia raised an eyebrow and gave me a look that said Yeah right.
“I’m just… tired. And confused,” I admitted. “It’s been a lot. New job,

new city, new everything.”
“Sounds like the perfect time to add some werewolf drama,” she
teased.
I rolled my eyes. “No thanks.”
Naia laughed. “Come on, you can’t run from your past forever. What
about your dad’s pack? Have you thought about seeing them?”
I stiffened and turned my head away. “No. Not yet. Maybe not for a
long time.”
“Why not? They’re family.”
“That’s just it.” I sat up, brushing grass off my sweater. “I’m not sure I’m ready to face them. Not now, not like this.”
Naia’s face softened. “I get that. But you can’t keep pretending they
don’t exist.”
I sighed, looking down at my sleeve, I rolled it up to reveal the faint, ancient mark etched into my skin–a swirling pattern that glowed softly in certain light. The mark of my bloodline, my heritage, the
legacy I never wanted.

“It’s still here,” I said quietly. “But it feels like a ghost now. Like it’s
waiting for me to remember who I am.”
Naia nodded. “You’ve been through a lot. Maybe forgetting for a while
was what you needed.”
I laughed softly, remembering the chaos of the past week. The coffee
spills, the wrong emails, the awkward elevator rides–all the little
things that made me feel human again.
“Sometimes I forget I’m even a werewolf,” I said. “Or royalty. For a
moment, I just want to be normal.”
Naia grinned. “Normal is overrated. But hey, if you want, I can
introduce you to your dad’s pack. Just so they don’t think you
abandoned them.”
“Not yet,” I said firmly. “Maybe someday. But I need time to get my
life together first.”
She nudged me playfully. “Fair enough. But don’t hide forever.”
I smiled, grateful for her support.
Our conversation drifted to lighter things–funny pack stories,
ridiculous dating disasters, and the crazy antics of Marcus and Bella.

Bella had once tried online dating and ended up on a date with a guy
who brought his pet snake. Marcus swore he’d never date anyone who
wasn’t a werewolf.
“And what about you?” Naia asked, elbowing me. “Any love
