“Was she? The only one in your pack house?”
“You don’t know anything,” I growled, because I started to worry he might be right. It was far too late to second–guess. She had been the only one in that room with him. That was enough cause for her guilt.
He didn’t care what William said. William was in love with Vanessa. He would take her side no matter what, try to twist things to whatever made him feel better. But the truth was, Vanessa tricked me. She had to have. Nothing else made sense.
“If you try to hit me one more time, I will hit you back,” I warned.
“Go to the hells!” William said and took the first swing.
I took the next and the last.
Brittany’s POV
I was still seething about Jason having slept with Vanessa when I went back into Jason’s office later. He wasn’t there, and the maids had finished their cleaning. I needed to make sure all evidence of my involvement was good and gone.

As I was perusing the room, satisfied that I saw no coffee cup or spilling coffee, I heard shouting from outside the front window. Pulling back the curtains, I glanced to see Jason slug William straight across the jaw.
William hit the ground hard.
“I told you,” Jason said.
“Hells take you,” William said, sitting up. He didn’t bother standing, just sitting there in the dirt, rubbing his jaw.
“Stay out of this, William. And stay away from me. You and Vanessa both. I don’t want anything to do with you anymore.”
“We still have our damn contract,” William said.
“Not anymore, we don’t,” Jason said. “It’s over.”
I hummed, pleased Jason had finally come to my side of things. That eased some of the sting of not having been the one to sleep with Jason, but not all.
I looked back toward the desk, annoyed when I saw Laila staring out at me from a framed photo on Jason’s desk. With a harsh
his desk. huff, I went to it and turned it down flat on its face. Laila was dead and buried. She didn’t need to be on his desk.
I might have stolen the picture, hidden it, or thrown it in the trash, but I didn’t have the time.
I could already hear Jason coming in from outside and walking quickly in this direction.
Leaving the photo face–down on the desk, I moved away to the center of the room, preparing to deal with him.
When he came in and saw me, his annoyed expression wilted into apologetic once more. “Brittany…”
I reveled in the thought of him kneeling before me, begging me for my forgiveness. He was too proud though, I doubted he would actually do that.
Unfortunately.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
“Were you fighting with William?” she asked.
“He showed up here looking for a fight,” I said. “He should have known better.”

That entire side of the pack is trouble. You need to stay away from William and Vanessa both. I hope you actually gave this some thought and came to the right decision this time.”
“I did,” he said. “And… you’re right.” .
I fought hard to contain the sudden burst of glee. How I loved hearing those words, especially from him.
“What are you going to do about it?” I asked, prompting more.
