Jason’s POV

I had Hank brought straight to my office. He sat before me now, looking far too comfortable in one of the chairs facing my desk. He wasn’t one of my werewolves. Being from the neutral lands, I couldn’t tell if he was wolfless or just human. Either way, he didn’t seem at all intimidated to be sitting in an Alpha’s office, which gave me an immediate dislike of him.
That kind of arrogance seemed unearned. I was in a position to demand respect, and this man didn’t seem to hold any for me.
I could tell with just a glance that this was going to be a difficult conversation, like pulling teeth.
I gestured for Marcus to stay in the room, expecting I might need his help with this one. Perhaps if we came at him from two angles, we could rattle that confidence and get him to help us.
“I’ve discovered a listing on the black market,” I said, and showed him the printout.
He leaned forward, skimmed it briefly, and then sat back in his chair. “So?”
“Do you know anything about this?” I asked.
“Why would I?” Hank asked.
I grit my teeth together. “I’m looking for information about this.”
He tilted his head. “How much are you willing to pay?”
“How much will it take?”
“Use your imagination,” Hank said.
Holding in a sigh, I took back the printout then scribbled an amount at the bottom.
When I showed him, he laughed. “What do you think this is, a charity?”
My frown deepening, I added another zero.
“Add two more, and we can start talking,” Hank said. “But I make no promises on delivery.”
“I will add one zero,” I said. “And the other will come after you give me what I want.”
Hank considered this. “And what do you
want?”
“Everything there is to know about this,” I said. “I want to know who posted it, where they are. I want to know whose DNA this
is.”
“That’s a lot of things.”
“The amount you want should cover three questions.”
Hank hummed. A smirk never left his lips. He was acting like he knew some big joke that the rest of us were left out of.
“I suppose it is,” Hank said. “I want the first payment right now, before I leave this office. I know how shifty you Alphas are. You could turn around and arrest me before I even do anything.”
“No one will arrest you.”
“The money will help with my courage,” Hank said.
I nodded to Marcus, who stepped out of the room to write a check.
Hank grinned wider. “Give me that listing back,” he said. When I did, he looked at it with something almost like… pride? Maybe

hackers took pride in each other’s work?
I wasn’t sure, but I didn’t trust him at all.
