The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140

I nodded, ready to return to my work, but Marcus stayed there.

Is there something else?I asked.

Yes,he said. One of the guards brought this in. Volunteers were handing them out just outside. He brought me another slip of paper, this time in flier form. Reading it, my jaw nearly hit the floor.

Ava Harper, Vanessa’s little girl, was in trouble. They flier was a call to find a donor match, as she was in desperate need of wolf essence to save her life.

Ava needed a donor? Just like my girl from the black market listing, though what my daughter needed a donor for was left unsaid.

A small hope sparked inside of me, but I immediately quashed it. I already had firm DNA evidence that Ava was not my daughter. Any similarities between Ava and the girl from the listing had to be entirely coincidental. Even if they were very coincidental.

I pushed those wayward thoughts out of my mind. The bigger issue here, clearly, was that Ava needed help.

Gather anyone willing from the office,I said. We should all try to help Ava if we can.

Marcus nodded, and hurried to do what I asked.

Laila’s POV

To my surprise and relief, more potential donors continued to arrive, all thanks to Riley’s wordofmouth campaign. Between thanking them all for their efforts, I was checking the messages on the strange app on my phone. Given the amount I had been offering, there were a lot of interested parties. I wondered how many people in line were also ones I had messaged with the

strange app.

Things went on like that for a while, until, to my surprise, I looked toward the door and saw Vanessa’s sisters, Jessica and Hannah come inside. I hadn’t seen them since the courthouse, so to see them now meant something.

I immediately went to great them near the end of the donor line.

Jessica! Hannah! What are you doing here?I asked, and gave them both brief hugs. Hannah returned mine warmly. Jessica was a bit stiffer.

We wanted to help,Hannah said.

But aren’t you supposed to be in school?

We sneaked away,Jessica said. No one knows we are here.

Thank you so much,I said. I mean it.

You don’t need to thank us,Hannah said. Ava is too young to face all this. We will do what we can.

Even if it’s a big ask of our time,Jessica said.

Jess,Hannah said lightly, scolding.

It’s fine,Jessica said.

I looked at her. She crossed her arms. Did something happen?

Nothing you need to worry about,Jessica said. You have enough on your plate.

I couldn’t tell if she was being genuine or not and looked to Hannah for explanation.

Hannah sighed. Grandpa Victor stopped paying for her gymnastics training.

I could have gone to the tournament finals,Jessica said. Maybe even beyond.

Grandpa said it was an unnecessary expense, Hannah said. She gave me a sympathetic look. He saiduntil you marry William, the expenses were going to have to be more tightly secured.

So why don’t you just do it already?Jessica asked, looking at me. You are engaged to Witham, right?

Jessica,Hannah scolded again.

Jessica shook her head. You don’t have the money, I get that. You are clearly going through a lot. I’m not trying to put you down for it. Ava didn’t ask for this. She huffed a breath. But neither did I. I lived for gymnastics, and now it’s taken away. It’s hard not to see it as your fault.
