Chapter 191
Brittany’s POV
Brittany stared at me for a long moment, before her face turned as red as a cherry tomato. Anger sparked like flames in her eyes, and any façade she might have been trying to maintain to show interest and affection dried up at once, replaced by hatred and rage that made her sputter as she talked.
“How fucking dare you!” she growled. “You can’t break things off with me. I am the godsdamned Luna! The people of this pack adore me! If you try to end things with me, they will eat you alive and rightfully so.”
I sat back, allowing her to rage, wanting the therapist to see her for the person I had learned that she was over the past six years. Brittany had convinced almost everyone that she was the perfect Luna, but that had never been the case. If even one more persan could be convinced of it, I would be happy. Sometimes I felt like I was going crazy, the only one able to see past the curtain of her falsehoods to the true Brittany underneath.
Melody’s shock lasted only a beat longer, before she dropped her gaze to her notepad and began scribbling away quickly. I could only imagine what she was writing down.
Brittany continued, “I will not be treated like this by anyone. I deserve so much better. You have no idea who you are messing with. And you. Gods, who are you? You are mine, Jason. You’ve been mine since I first set eyes on you, and you will keep being mine, whether you want to be or not!”
“No.”
Where before, I had allowed her to blow off steam for the sake of revealing herself, these comments were a bridge too far.
No one could speak to me like that. Not even the Luna of the pack. She wanted to talk about how I hadn’t respected her, but when had she ever shown me the respect I am entitled to? She’d only ever tried to undermine me, to make herself look more important.
She’d considered me nothing more than a trophy or a flashy arm ornament, to show others how important she is, just by being
connected to me.
Laila would have never. Vanessa would never.
Too long, I’d let these actions go without any kind of justice.
No longer.
“I am Alpha,” I growled. “I belong to no one.”
“)
Brittany paled a little at my tone. “I… I’ll tell your father…”
r
“No, you won’t,” I said flatly. “I love my father, and I want him healthy. But he is not the pack Alpha any longer. He holds no power. No sway. And your consistent attempts to involve him in matters that no longer concern him only shows your selfishness. He’s retired. Allow the man to rest.”
“But –”
“I’m warning you, Brittany. If you involve him again, you will be sorry.”
She stared at me with pure hatred, before glancing at Melody, like she was just remembering that the therapist was there. Then, in a show of false tears and her trembling bottom lip, which had been perfectly still until now, she cried out, “You are so cruel to me! How could you be so cruel?!”
Then she hopped to her feet.
ན
“I can’t keep doing this with you, Jason. Tell me when you are ready to be kind to me again!”
Covering her face, she turned and stormed from the room in a flourish, making sure to sob all the way to the stairs and then all
