The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 226

Chapter 226

Victor,I said.

What?

When was the last time you looked at Vanessa? I mean really looked at her.

What are you getting at?

I showed him the picture. Look at this.

He did. That’s Vanessa and one of her friends. I can’t be bother to learn names.

Forget the friend. Really look at Vanessa.

Snatching the picture away from me, he brought it nearer his eyes. She looks the same.

Does she? I don’t think so.

Victor huffed a harsh laugh, lowering the picture. What are you even suggesting? That someone took Vanessa’s place? For what purpose!

How could he be so blind? For money, of course. Or for the Harper name. Who wouldn’t want to leech off of our power?I said. Remember, Vanessa disappeared for a time. What if an imposter filled in for her?

I think you are reaching for straws,Victor said, dismissive.

Maybe.

I continued glancing around the room, searching for more evidence. This hadn’t been where I thought my investigation would lead me when I had entered this room, but now I was determined, I felt like I was onto something. I was sure of it.

There!

On the trophy shelf, among her other awards, was a small certificate for blood donation. Vanessa had given a gallon of blood over the course of several donation visits. How generous.

I didn’t care about that. What interested me was the blood type written on the card. AB+.

Look here,I said, showing Victor. If we can test the new Vanessa’s blood type and it doesn’t match, then we have her. We’ll know she’s an imposter and we’ll be able to prove it.

Victor still looked mostly skeptical but there was a hint of curiosity in his eyes. I knew that was all I needed to win him over to my side.

If we can prove this Vanessa is an imposter, then she has no right to the company or anything else,Victor said. We could sue her into oblivion.

While money was very important, Victor still wasn’t seeing the big picture. If she’s an imposter, we can finally get her out of the way. And no one would even try to stop us this time. If she’s fooling the world and we expose it, everyone will turn on her. Likely even her Alpha protector.

Victor said. She’s in the hospital now, isn’t she? We’ll have our answer in one quick phone call.

Then let’s find out.

Hannah’s POV

Jessica and I, having sneaked out into the hallway to eavesdrop on Grandfather and Aunt Adelaide rushed into my bedroom when it seemed the pair was going to leave the room again.

We waited, our ears pressed to the doorway for them to disappear down the hall.

When they’d gone, Jessica leaned back and looked at me.

I knew something wasn’t right about Vanessa, or whoever she is.

She does a lot for us,I said.

Jessica scoffed. Don’t be so gullible, Hannah. They only reason an imposter would take Vanessa’s place was for her own personal gain. I can’t believe there was a time when I trusted her. Never again.

I kept my mouth shut, not wanting to spite Jessica or reveal my own thinking to her if we weren’t in agreement.

In truth, I’d long suspected the new Vanessa wasn’t the same sister that had been with us before. But, while I had loved my sister Vanessa, I didn’t dislike this new Vanessa either. Maybe Jessica was blind to all the sacrifices the new Vanessa had made for us, but I wasn’t.

I didn’t know why she would take our sister’s place, but I was sure there had to be a reason.

But right now, if it was true like I suspected, then Grandfather and Aunt Adelaide were going to find out. And once they did, they would go public to try to ruin the new Vanessa’s life.

It seemed like she didn’t have many people in her corner. But I was.
