The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 231

Chapter 231

Jason’s POV

Faster,I told the driver of my car. I’ll pay for any tickets. Just get me to the hospital as fast as you can.

Yes, Alpha, the driver said, and the car lurched forward, adding speed.

Sitting back in my chair, I once more lifted my phone to my ear.

The guards we sent to the hospital are reporting in,Marcus said through the phone. The police have entered Vanessa’s room. They had the handcuffs out. I don’t think they intended to just talk to her.

She is injured,I growled. I was still fuming over the blatant corruption of the commissioner releasing Adelaide, but this farce was something even more heinous. They are trusting the word of a murderer and attempted kidnapper without cause.

Should our guards intervene, Alpha?Marcus asked.

Looking out the window, I surmised my distance from the hospital. I’m almost there. I’ll see the situation for myself.

As much as I wanted my guards to act to protect Vanessa, to do so could spark a war with the humans.

I cursed. I had wanted so badly to leave duty behind, to prioritize my own wants and needs. I’d been willing to fight a pack war with another werewolf to achieve it, but fighting with humans was something else. They weren’t werewolves. If I sent my armies to fight them, there would be a slaughter. But that was no victory. All of the werewolf packs would see this as a sign of tyrannical madness. They would join to act against me and my pack.

Because of this, I had to find a way to resolve this peacefully, even if all I wanted to do was grab Vanessa and protect her.

No, I couldn’t call her Vanessa anymore, could I? I had been suspicious for a while, but when Adelaide had displayed her proof on

the truth was clear. the video photos and blood type tests

The imposter could have been anyone, but with Ava, and with how I feltI was certain that my initial suspicions were actually

correct.

This imposter had to be Laila.

The car finally reached the hospital and rolled to a stop in the street out front. Police cars lined the sidewalk, blocking all the parking, and officers were directing traffic forward.

I opened the backdoor and hopped out just as my driver was told to keep moving.

The officers looked me over but I returned their looks with a steely gaze as I rushed forward to the main entrance.

Yet, just as I reached it, the imposter, still in her hospital gown, was being escorted out. An officer was on either side of her,

and was quickly righted. roughly grabbing her arms and pushing her forward. She stumbled once,

Gods, she looked exhausted, her face pale, the bags heavy under her eyes. But she lifted her chin proudly, carrying herself with an immense inner strength.

I hurried forward, not sure what I was going to do, but wanting to do something. She looked at me when I came nearer and shook her head, no.

Stubborn, I didn’t listen. Stop this madness,I commanded of the officers surrounding her. This woman needs medical care.

She’ll get it in her jail cell, one of the officers said.

I am Alpha,I growled. I will not allow this woman’s mistreatment.

The man who was speaking with me cowered slightly, but stood his ground. You have no jurisdiction here. No one has to listen to you. You want to do something about this? Take it up with the lawyers and courts. But let us do our jobs.
