For now, I had to step to the side.

Non–Vanessa gave me a grateful look as she was shoved forward and directed into the back of one of the police cars.
As I stood there, seething, using all of my willpower to restrain myself from rushing forward and starting a war, William appeared at my side. He was as tense as me, rage mirroring mine in his face.
I didn’t like William, but we were at least in agreement over our outrage for Vanessa.
“I’ll find a way to help her,” I said. “I’ll hire the best lawyers. I’ll hound them to make sure she receives car.”
When the police car drove away, William shifted his furious gaze onto me, redirecting his anger straight onto me.
“The best way you can help her is to stay the hell out of her life once and for all,” William said. “All of this trouble for her, started with you.”
I froze, at a loss for words. I knew he hated me, but I hadn’t expected a comment so very pointed. One that could cut so deeply.
The fake–Vanessa had been living the lie confidently until I showed up. I’d been accusing her from the start, drawing suspicion onto her from the start.

I didn’t know Adelaide. I’d had nothing to do with that. But… was there I way I could have ultimately been responsible for all
this?
William wasn’t finished. “You’ve done enough. She’ll be better off without you.”
Brittany’s POV
When Adelaide had approached me, I’d had no idea what she had actually been capable of. Especially as our plans fell apart, Jason had broken through the sedative I’d given him, and Vanessa had escaped death.
But now, after seeing her television interview, after learning what she had uncovered about Vanessa… the faker, I was filled with a new sense of respect for the older woman. She played to win, and that was something I needed to emulate.
When the truth about Vanessa was finally revealed, it felt as if something had unlocked inside of me. Like a long held suspicion was finally clearer to me now.
I knew I didn’t have a lot of time. Jason remembered that I’d drugged him, what I had done. I was certain that when he returned home, I would be removed from the pack house, if not exiled entirely.
I had to act quickly, so after making sure no one was coming, I stood in front of the locked door to Laila’sold room. Jason thought I didn’t know the code to enter the room, but he constantly underestimated me. Pushing in the code, the lock unlatched and I was able to enter.
The news had reported that while Vanessa’s blood type had been AB+, the imposter’s had been 0+.
In Laila’s old room, Jason had tucked away many of her old records, keeping everything secure if not just out of sight. I went to the closet, threw open the door, and began rummaging through the documents now, searching for any kind of medical files.
Laila’s blood type would have surely been profiled at one point or another, which meant that – yes. Here.
I tugged a file away from the rest and opened it. For this visit to the medical clinic, Laila had some simple lab work down, but her blood type had been tested, along with her wolf’s strength.
Her wolf’s strength was comically low. No wonder she was a wolfless.
But right there, below that result, was Laila’s blood type.
