The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 256

Laila,he said, calling after me.

I kept walking

Are you going back to the hospital? Let me thiye you,he said. I want to check on my dad. And then I need to donate my wolf essence to Ava.

Right. That was today, but we were way ahead of schedule because of the quick court day.

I stopped and he did too, at my side. I’ll drive you,he said.

Okay.

We didn’t really speak in the car, but I could hear my heartbeat pounding in my ears.

When we arrived, we walked in together, but wordlessly split up on the elevator as we took different floors. Jason exited first, and I rode up to Ava’s room.

William was there in her room. He stood up when I entered. You’re back early. Everything alright?

Ava was listening intently. I glanced at her and back to William. Yes. Better than I thought it would. And quicker too. This moves up the schedule. Jason will be here in a minute for the final donation.

Ava perked up at once, while William glowered. For a while, I worried there might be some kind of altercation when Jason would finally arrive, so when he did show, opening the door and stepping through, I held my breath.

William stood up again, and seemed to be flexing his muscles semithreateningly.

Jason frowned.

I stood up too, ready to intervene, but before anything could happen, William stepped to the side, allowing Jason to come forward. As Jason did, William turned and walked out of the room,

This had to be hard on him and I was proud of him. He really was trying to be just a friend to me. I would thank him later.

Alpha Jason!Ava said, already hopping from the bed to hug him.

Jason met her hug, scooping her up and returning her gracefully back to the bed. He smiled, but the stress lines near his eyes were tight.

I missed you,he said to Ava.

I missed you more!she insisted.

They both laughed, but I could tell something was wrong.

After he had donated his wolf essence, while Ava was resting, I walked Jason out the door. In the hallway, he pulled me to a quiet corner and said, I want to tell Ava that I’m her father.

My heart raced. I’m not sure that’s such a good idea.

Why? The truth is out there now. It would be long until the world pieces everything together. She is my daughter and I want to be there for her.

Panic flooded through me. Was he angling to take her from me? Would Ava even want to go with him? She did care about him so

Jason gave me a discerning look, I won’t push too hard on you right now. I’ll take your lead on this. We can go slowly. But I want her to know, Laila Sooner or later, she’s going to find out anyway. I’d rather be from us, sitting down and talking to her together.

I didn’t know what to say so I lowered my head. Soon. A lot’s happened. I need timeto think

I’ll give you time,he said. Just not forever.
