Laila’s POV
I stood in court the next mornings surprised as the judge announces all of the charges against me had been dropped. Beside me, Mr. Waters looked physically relief.
“Thank you, judge,” he said, then nudged me.
“Thank you, judge,” I said.
The judge seemed dissatisfied with the events but other than frowning and glaring at me as he left, nothing really came of it. After as everyone in the courtroom started to disburse, Perry turned to me and held out his hand.
“Certainly not the outcome we thought, and isn’t that good,” he said, laughing a little.
I shook his hand. “Thank you for your help,” I said, though I still wasn’t sure how this came about, what either of us did to lead us to this resolution.
I had gone to the clinic with Jason, but we’d had no answers. I’d still given the note Hannah found to my lawyer today, but he hadn’t even had time to present it to the court yet.
Though, hadn’t Jason said last night that he had something he had to do? He couldn’t have done something to make this happen ….could he?
I glanced behind me, catching Jason’s eye.
Perry checked his watch. “Well, this early resolution gives me time to work on other cases. I’m glad you are free. I have to go
now.
I watched as he turned and walked away. As soon as Perry had left an opening, Jason was there to fill it. He wasn’t smiling, but his face was content, and just a touch prideful.
“Did you have something to do with this?” I asked him.
“I’m only guilty in keeping my family safe,” he replied.
I looked at him with confusion. What did that mean? But then I understood. He considered Ava and me part of his family. A warmth kindled inside of my chest, sparking and growing.
“We can’t talk here,” he said. “Follow me.”
I wanted to tell him no, but I felt like I was floating on a cloud. Being a part of Jason’s family was all I had ever really wanted. I shouldn’t need it anymore I didn’t but now that I had it, Gods, it was all I could do not to throw my arms around him and
kissed him.
At least not here.
I followed Jason as he checked a few door handles, looking for a room that was unlocked. When he found one, he ushered me inside, then closed the door behind us. This was a small side room, perhaps where witnesses could comfortably sit during a trial before they were called.
There was a couch and a few magazines spread over a coffee table.
The room only had one entrance and with a quick glance, I knew no one else was in here.

being dropped and the joy in being considered his family finally, all of my emotions were overwhelming me. Every inch of me wanted to kiss him.
His reaction was stunned shock for only a moment, before his hands flow to my hips, He tilted his head, coaxed my lips open with a quick swipe of his tongue, and deepened the kiss hungrily.
