Our lips touched and lightning struck through us, bringing us back to life. His tongue slipped into my mouth. His hands crept down to my ass, yanking me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist.

He groaned against my mouth, as I pressed against his growing hardness.

Hobbling, he carried me to the bed and lowered me down.

We made quick work of our clothes, eager to get naked, to see and feel each other, to affirm each other that we were both alive. Healthy. Here. Together.

Clasping each other’s hands, we slipped out fingers together.

I opened my legs, giving him entrance. He pressed into me, making us both moan.

Jason

He kissed me as he moved inside of me.

Like this, words weren’t needed. We were past that. Now, we were allowing our bodies to do the talking.

I’m alive.

I need you.

Don’t leave me.

I clutched onto his hands.

His pace stayed slow, nearly torturous, blissful, driving me to the edge of pleasure but never quite pushing me over. Again and again, there and back, until tears were welling in my eyes and I didn’t know if I could take anymore.

Then his thrusts became faster, more desperate.

Laila. Gods, Laila.

With a frantic pace, he pushed us both to the edge once more. Then, as we clung onto one another, we both found our bliss. His hips stopped, his dick jumping inside of me. I threw my head back, clenching onto Jason as hard as I could.

Our wordless gasps made a vulgar chorus. And then, finally, spent, we both collapsed.

Jason’s hands stayed on me, his body wrapped around me. I was the same, folding into him as much as

I could, wishing I could almost be a part of him, to be as close to him as I wanted.

To be safe. To be contented.

To be whole.

Confident that Jason and Laila weren’t going anywhere for the rest of the night, I assigned guards to every floor, paving a clear path for me to walk outside, through the gardens and the fields to the trees beyond. No one followed me. No one questioned me. As it should be.

There, I found my recent hire, his sniper leaning against the trunk of a tree. The young man was pacing, looking nervous yet not nearly as nervous as he should have been.

He had boasted himself at being the very best shot in the pack. He had insisted that he could do the job. He had already been paid handsomely to do so.

Yet here he stood, a failure.

Spotting me, he turned to me and lowered his head. Alpha. You have to understand

I already understand the depths of your failure,I said. It seems that you are the one who does not understand.
