Chapter 381
Jason’s POV
I could have kissed Laila forever, even with the crowd cheering, and Richard’s menace growing. After how she had just saved my life, I didn’t want to ever let her go. But, my appreciation could only be given briefly in this moment. The fight was still ongoing, and now, recharged, I was more determined than ever to win.
I broke the kiss, and gently eased Laila back across the line of the ring. “Thank you,” I whispered. “Now stay here, and let me do my thing.”
“He could still have that poisoned blade,” Laila warned.
“I won’t make the same mistakes a second time,” I promised.
She cupped my cheek with her hands for just a moment, and then let them drop. After stealing one last quick kiss from those perfect lips, I turned back around and faced my opponent again.
Richard. A liar. A cheat. A murderer.
He did not deserve this pack he ran. It belonged to Laila.
The bell rang, and I shifted into my wolf. No more games.
Growling, I prowled closer.
For the briefest of moments, fear widened Richard’s eyes. But then, just as quickly it dimmed, replaced my rage.
“You are disqualified!” he shouted. He motioned toward the referee, who until this moment had been safely standing to the side. “Get over here and disqualify him.”
The referee scrambled forward.
“Do it!” Richard demanded. The man knew he was going to lose. His cheating didn’t work so now he had to force his hand.
What a coward.
The referee looked between us, but with one more sharp glare from Richard, the referee decided. “Alpha Jason is disqualified. Alpha Richard wins!” The referee grabbed Richard’s arm and lifted it high.
The crowd fell quiet, everyone in disbelief.
“Where is my applause?” Richard demanded. “Cheer for me!”
No one did!
I shifted back to my human form, my wolf snarling inside of me, unsatisfied. I moved back to Laila, who came forward into my
arms at once.
“He’s running,” Laila whispered.
“His poison didn’t work, and he knows my wolf is stronger,” I told her. “If he shifts and I defeat him, he will be humiliated There will be nothing for him.”
I turned around to find Richard glaring at the two of us The crowd remained quiet, despite his attempts to rouse them. In fact, some people just started leaving
Growling, he tore his arm away from the referee and stormed out of the ring, disappearing into the tent, where the sound of crashing told a story of an angry man upturning cabinets and chairs
Laila and I waited a while, giving him a wide berth Once the noises ceased, and I couldn’t detect Richard’s menace nearby anymore. Then, with my arm protectively around Laila, I guided out of the ring, away from the prying eyes of the remaining

onlookers, and into the tents.
As expected, inside the tents was a kind of warzone, with furniture toppled, glass shattered. The young doctor was there, pale.
I attempted to steer Laila through the disaster zone, but she stopped you.
“You should be checked by the doctor,” she said.
