Chapter 380
That hadn’t just been a kniffe’d been poisoned.
There was only one kind of poison that grew in this pack, that was supposed to be well guarded and regulated. But who better to have access to the poison than the Alpha?
That same poison could be the only one to take down an Alpha this quickly.
It must have been an impressive dose. Maybe it would have been enough to kill anyone but an Alpha.
With how quickly my strength was fading, maybe it would be enough to kill me to.
I had to keep fighting. I had to win, to push off this poison, and fight for Laila.
But each step was sluggish. Each punch felt heavy.
I could barely keep upright anymore.
I dropped to my knees.
Richard smirked at me. “Yield, and maybe I’ll be merciful. Don’t, and you will die.”
Laila’s POV
I hadn’t seen Richard do anything, but I guessed it was when Jason blocked me. Richard had looked like he was going to attack me, and Jason would always protect me. Richard knew that. He must have used that to his advantage, used that opening to cheat.
As Jason had twisted, I had seen the wound. It had to have been made by a blade, but it couldn’t have been a normal blade, or it would have healed by now.
Jason was on his knees know, and Richard was smiling like he had already won. Maybe he had.
But what could have brought Jason, such a strong Alpha, so low so quickly?
Deep in my bones, I already knew, didn’t I? What else could it be but wolfsbane?
Immediately, I knew what I had to do. Larry had sacrificed much to give us a single dose of the cure. I had intended it for Ava, but, we would have to find another way to save her.
Right now, if I didn’t give this dose to Jason instead…
No, I couldn’t think of it. Couldn’t fathom it.
Jason and I had our differences, but to imagine a future without him in it was unconscionable.
He had to be there. I had to save him.
I stepped forward into the ring. Richard’s smile slipped as he looked up at me.
“Stay back, niece. I’m about to win,” Richard said.
“I’m not going to let him die,” I said, moving forward. When I reached Jason, he looked even worse up close, his lace pale, a sheen of sweat on his brow. His eyes were cloudy.
“Lai la..” he wheezed, barely able to speak, to breathe. Each breath sounded strained.
From deep within my pocket, I withdrew the small vial holding the cure.
“What the hell is that?” Richard said. “Laila, you aren’t allowed to interfere
“And weapons weren’t permitted either,” I snapped, glaring at him, daring him to try to stop me I didn’t have an Alpha’s

strength, but I had the fury of a woman whose mate was in danger. If Richard tried to stop me, I wasn’t sure what I would do, but my wolf was ready to act.
Richard grit his teeth, but didn’t move as I turned back to Jason. As I brought the vial to his mouth.
