The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 384

Chapter 384

“I’m just so nervous something is going to go wrong.”

I felt a pang of guilt, knowing I was going to be the cause of things going wrong tonight But, if we could get Richard out, then everything would be infinitely better for the pack. Alexa could endure one ruined evening to plan many, many more… right?

“Don’t overly stress,” I told her. “You should be with the rest of the party, having fun.”

“Oh, I couldn’t.”

“The ceremony is in my honor, isn’t it? Then I insist, and you have to listen. Those are the rules.”

She gave me a look I couldn’t decipher under the mask. “Well, if you say so…”

“I do,” I said. “Go. Enjoy yourself and all the good you’ve done.”

“Thank you, Laila,” she said, lighter than before. “I am so glad you came back to us.”

“Thank you,” I told her, and watched her hurry off. It was hard not to slump ever so slightly knowing how disappointed she was going to be.

Jason pressed his hand more firmly to the small of my back. “You are doing the right thing,” he said. “She’ll be okay.”

A secret thought crossed my mind, unbidden, out of nowhere.

When this is over, I’ll have Alexa plan my wedding.

I startled, unsure where that idea had even come from, and tampered down on it, burying it deep inside of myself.

Jason and I were still fragile. We’d been growing stronger but we were nowhere near… that.

I needed to focus.
