The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 386

Chapter 386

With their masks in place, requldn’t tell the level of their displeasure, though I was certain they felt some, as I had basically thrown all of their ideas for my future back at them.

Having Jason beside me made defying them easier.

But, truly, even without Jason, I would have stood against them in this. No one should be able to decide my fate – particularly in love – but me. Me and my chosen partner.

As we stepped away from the council, Jason whispered, “I wish I could kiss you.”

“Good thing for the masks then,” I said, “Or we might become distracted.”

He grumbled. “After tonight, no more masquerades. I want to be able to kiss you when I please.”

I blushed, but my mask hid it.

Shaking my head lightly, I tried to refocus. “Do you think all the guests are here? We shouldn’t waste more time.”

“I believe so,” he said, looking around. “A large enough amount anyway.”

“If they are loyal to Richard, do you really think they will stand with us against him?”

“Don’t doubt yourself. You are princess and rightful heir. People do what they have to do to survive, but that doesn’t mean they are pleased with the status quo. We’ll get you to the microphone, you’ll make your speech, and they will decide. If they turn on us, we’ll flee and leave them to their fate. But I don’t think they’ll turn on us.”

“Okay.”

“The musicians are this way. There’s a microphone.”
