The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 395

Chapter 395

I kissed him back with all the passion and love he was showing me, even as fresh tears filled my eyes. I tried to hold them back, but they still spilled, falling down to his hands. He stepped closer, holding tighter.

Someone nearby cleared their throat.

He broke the kiss. Blushing at having been caught, I lowered my forehead to Jason’s chest to hide my red cheeks. Jason looked at the intruder.

“What is it?” he asked.

“Sorry, ma’am,” my servant said, speaking to me and not to Jason. “The Elders are ready to continue. They require you back in the meeting room.”

“Thank you,” I told the servant, while still hiding my face. “I’ll be along in a moment.”

“They seem agitated, ma’am,” the servant said.

“Just a minute more, please,” I said, more firmly, and the servant finally took the hint and ieft.

I lifted my head and looked at Jason. His face was hard, expressionless as stone, but his eyes shown with love but also heartbreak.

“Jason…”

“I’ll leave you to your work,” he said.

“But…”

He kissed me once more, softly, just for an instant, then let me go, backing away.

“I love you,” he said. His gaze looked me over, and for one horrible moment, I thought he might be trying to take a mental picture to remember me by.

“Jason,” I said, desperate. “When I return to the room tonight, you are going to be there, right?”

He didn’t say a word, just turned and walked away.

I would never forget the slump in his shoulders. The slow, pained gait that took him away from me.
