Chapter 39
Daren’s POV
Finist
From across the table, I could see Raina looked dumbfounded, and Fiona was surprised by the huge compensation from Alfie, which she didn’t expect.
Alfie knew about my strange feelings for Fiona; that was why he was trying to win her over with those gi When they left their table, I switched to my wolf sense and sharpened it enough to hear their conversation.
“Fiona, what should we do?”
Raina looked at her, completely unsure.
“Well, it’s already here. Let’s drink it. You keep the card–it might come in handy someday; who knows? Sometimes, you would want to come here and drink.” Fiona winked at her. “If someone gives you something valuable, it’s silly to say no.”
Fiona picked up the corkscrew, popped the bottle open, and poured wine into two glasses.
“Cheers!”
“What are we cheering about?” Raina chuckled as she lifted her glass too.
“Screw the Jensons,” Fiona replied as she lifted her glass.
She took a sip, and Raina blinked, then gave her a big grin. “Screw the Jensons!”
“Oh, and didn’t we plan to spend all that dirty money Damon gave you? Guess tonight kind of ruined tha plan.”
“Ugh, just thinking about keeping that jerk’s dirty money makes me sick. Why don’t we donate all of it to Sunshine Elementary School?”
“Brilliant idea!”
After Fiona and Raina had eaten and finished their wine, they got up and left the restaurant, and not once did they glance in my direction. That made something in my chest twist and clench tight.
Only after they were completely gone did I finally look away and let out a deep sigh.
“Well, she’s gone now. Can you car your food already?” Alfie said with a chuckle.
My plate sat in front of me, barely touched, and the steak was going cold.
Unbelievable! My eyes had been glued to Fiona’s table the whole time!
The worst part? Fiona hadn’t even glanced in my direction, as if she doesn’t care at all.
From the looks of it, I was the one acting like a simp

“Honestly, if anyone had told me before that Daren–the powerful CEO and future alpha of Crescent Moon Pack–would end up chasing after a girl who clearly didn’t care, I would’ve called them crazy.” Al said with a smirk that made me glare at him.
“You are overthinking shit.” I scoffed. “I am not interested in anyone.”
“I would have believed it a day ago, but now? Nah… don’t worry. Everyone meets their match eventually But it’s like the ones you can’t have always stir your heart, and the ones who know they’ve got your heal never hold back.”
Alfie really wanted to tease me further, but my glare stopped him from pushing too far. It was basically risky, because if I got angry, I might forget we are friends.
“What did you say to Fiona earlier when giving them the card and stuff?” I asked, folding my arms and leaning back. Somehow, jealousy had crept in when I watched him talk with them with smiles on their faces, especially Fiona.
“Pfft…”
Alfie almost choked trying not to laugh, but he held it in. He wasn’t dumb enough to laugh in front of m when I looked serious.
He was pretty sure I would snap if pushed too far.
“Daren, this is the first time I’ve seen you care about a girl. Are you actually into her?”
“Alfie!”
“Look, I was just doing my job, okay? Don’t get worked up. I’d never chase a buddy’s girl. Don’t treat me like the enemy.”
He raised both hands like he was surrendering, knowing if I got the wrong idea, even being his best frien wouldn’t save him.
I had tried to hide these feelings, but it was becoming so difficult for me.
“But the girl you like isn’t just anyone. I checked–she used a VIP card to book her table. Those cards are almost impossible to get unless you’ve got serious connections.
“So she’s definitely not just some average girl. But let’s be real–anyone you’re interested in must be very special. She may be your true mate.”
Alfie glanced at me, waiting for a reaction, but just pressed my lips together and said nothing.
Suddenly…
Buzz!
My phone buzzed.
I looked at the screen, and my eyes flickered for a second when I saw the sender, Fiona.
She finally chatted me up after all these weeks of having my number. Since that first meeting at the
