Later that night, I dropped Raina off at her house.
“See you tomorrow, Fiona!”
“Yeah, get some rest.”
After watching her head inside, I glanced down at my phone.

I saw the messages Daren had sent–not just one, but two–and realized he’d even sent me a smiling e
Wow…
My fingers gently traced the edge of my phone screen.
Should I reply?
Maybe not. I still hadn’t figured out how to deal with the Lycan–now the prince. All this after I had wa nothing to do with the royal families. I just wanted to be on my own and live a normal life, but one thi was for sure–my path had crossed with Daren’s again today, and it would continue, especially since we attended the same academy.
My wolf leaped inside me, and I couldn’t help the confused smirk that crossed my face.
“Are you also interested in Daren?” I asked her inwardly. “I thought you liked our mate.”
“They are both interested in you,” she mumbled with cheeky laughter. “I don’t know what the Moon Goddess is planning, but both of them are irresistible.”
“The Lycan king is a bad person,” I muttered, rolling my eyes. “And Daren isn’t my type either. Let’s talk about something else.”
“You should at least keep a serious expression. I can tell you’re lying.”
I burst into laughter as I made my way back home,
The next day came, and I woke up feeling fresh and rested. I grabbed my phone and sent Raina a quick
text.
While getting ready, my phone buzzed again, and I thought it was Raina replying
I checked it.
To my surprise…
It was Daren.
He told me how great his night had been after seeing my text.
“I slept really well last night. Thanks to you.”

Chapter 40
I couldn’t hold back my smile.
Is he for real?
I texted back, “I didn’t really do anything, though.”
Daren instantly replied, “Just seeing you and talking with you made the difference.”
I furrowed my brows, unsure how to respond.

After thinking for a second, I typed back, “Well, thanks to you too. I didn’t have any bad dreams eithe and I slept really well.”
I let out a quiet laugh when I saw his reply.
“Glad to hear it. 🙂”
I couldn’t help but picture Daren–with his usual cold, serious face–typing a smiley emoji on his pho
It felt unreal.
Even people who seem untouchable and powerful have feelings, I thought.
Nobody is truly emotionless.
With my backpack slung over my shoulder, I got into my Porsche Cayenne and drove toward the acade – Orica.
In my past life with the Jensons, I had followed every family rule without question. Keep a low profile. Avoid trouble. Never steal Lydia’s spotlight. I had lived in constant fear of disappointing them.
But this time, things were different.
I was done with that nonsense. I didn’t need them at all.
Why should I?
silvervein.
I had been blessed by the Moon Goddess to become part of the Silvervein. I had my own money–and ye I was supposed to hide everything for the sake of my so–called family? Tiptoe around, worrying that Lydi might feel insecure? Force myself to play small and stay invisible so no one noticed me?
No. I wouldn’t.
Just because I was labeled an “orphan” or a “nobody” didn’t mean I had to believe it
How foolish.
Thinking about my old self made me want to yell at the girl I used to be.
“Screw you!”
My Porsche Cayenne pulled smoothly into a parking space near the university gates. I stepped out, sunglasses on, bag slung casually over one shoulder.

My chin was up, my face tilted toward the sun, and every step I took radiated confidence.
I wasn’t that fretting, fragile girl anymore.
I looked cool. Stylish. Powerful.
As I walked across campus, I could feel eyes following me.
“Whoa, she’s stunning.”
“When did Orica University get such a gorgeous girl?”
“Is she a senior? A freshman? Or maybe a new professor?”
“I need her number.”
“Don’t tell me that’s Fiona, the rejected Beta Daighter.”
Whispers floated around me from every direction.
Then, just as Lydia and Damon stepped out of their car, I felt it.
Their attention.
I didn’t even have to turn around to know they were staring.
When I finally glanced their way, I saw them frozen in place.
Wait… is that Fiona?
I could practically hear the disbelief in Lydia’s thoughts. Her body stiffened, her hands tightening aroun her backpack straps.
I watched confusion flash across her face.
How could I be glowing like this?
Back when I lived in the Jenson villa, I had been quiet. Nervous. Unsure of myself. I barely knew how to dress, let alone stand out.
To Lydia, I had never been a rival. I hadn’t matched her talent, her background, or her charm.
I had been nothing more than an inconvenient relative.
I knew exactly why she had stirred up that whole “prostitution trending topic” scandal. She had needed to stay at the center of attention. She thought I had been disposable, but I was able to handle it perfectly and in the end they apologized.
She thought she could get rid of me cleanly.

And when I cut ties with the Jensons myself, she must have believed everything was finally unde That I could never return.
