The Breaking Point of Mate: Giving Up on My Alpha novel Chapter 38

Third Person’s POV

After Trista hung up the phone, she deflated like a popped balloon, collapsing onto the long couch.

A faint wisp of that greenapple, childish scent lingered around her scent gland, dissipating quickly, carrying the sourness of boredom and disappointment.

Just then, Archer returned.

The light from the electric fireplace in the living room danced on his jacket. He glanced at his daughter’s expression. What’s wrong?

I called Mom and asked her to come back to be with me. She said she had plans. She buried her small, delicate face into a throw pillow, her voice muffled. Mommy is really busy lately.

Archer hummed, sitting down on the neighboring sofa. He undid his cuff links and picked up his phone to check messages.

He kept his aura extremely muted, maintaining it only as a soothing undertone for his daughter.

Trista’s emotions slowly leveled out. She picked up her tablet and opened her puzzle game. The screen light reflected on her

eyelashes like a ring of tiny moons.

Meanwhile, at the Blackthorn Packhouse, the council room lights were warm.

Two wolf warriors patrolled the hallway, the air marked by the Pack’s uniform resin and black tea scent.

Seeing Marvin’s group return, Daphne looked up. What took you so long?

Marvin paused. I ran into Melanie.

You saw her?Daphne put down her cup and saucer, her tone businesslike.

Although she had mated and joined her mate’s Pack, she still held significant influence in the Blackthorn Pack.

She didn’t ask about Melanie’s status, focusing instead on the real matter. Did you talk to her about Camille joining Hilltop Tech?

I brought it up, but she wouldn’t listen,Marvin shook his head.

His Alpha scent was kept perfectly stable, carrying a cold mix of cedar and metal.

Daphne lightly tapped the saucer with her finger, her brow slightly furrowed. You know Melanie’s state. Alpha Archer is a powerful pack leader; he won’t be led around by a pretty face. Even without Camille, Archer would eventually leave her anyway- she can’t keep her mate, and she hasn’t earned the pack’s respect.

In Daphne’s view, Melanie was merely jealous that Camille stoleArcher, so she was deliberately trying to block her trom Hilltop Tech.

She was convinced that Melanie lacked both skill and intelligence and only created trouble. Archer probably sees it that way, too.

It was a shame Melanie lacked selfawareness and seemed to be secretly pleased with herself for ruining Camille’s plans.

Comparing Camille’s résumé and accomplishments to Melanie’s, Daphine felt there was no comparison between the two.

Marvin sighed. I know.

His judgment aligned with Daphne’s. But she just wouldn’t listen

Daphne stopped the rest of her thoughtShe’s as stubborn as her mother.

The Blackthorn Pack’s former Luna was Melanie’s mother, and the current succeeding Luna was Camille’s mother. These old matters were never discussed lightly within the pack.

Marvin changed the subject. About CUAP-

We’ll ask Camille when she gets back,Daphne said.

Marvin was equally invested in this.

In recent years, the Haines Group, founded by Blackthorn, had invested heavily in the AI sector, but the company lacked core technology, and its growth curve had been flat.

Conversely, Hilltop Tech, holding the key to CUAP’s capabilities, could sit back and collect hundreds of millions in licensing revenue every year.

If they could acquire CUAP’s core technology and integrate it into their existing products, Haines Group’s valuation would immediately skyrocket, easily surpassing the billiondollar mark.

The door clicked, and light footsteps followed.

Camille returned to the council room and nodded to the elders. Alpha Marvin, Daphne.

You’re back?Daphne’s smile was instant, her admiration practically overflowing.

She motioned for the wolf warrior standing nearby to step away, preventing any unnecessary pheromonal interference.

Camille sat down, took a sip of water, and asked, What were you discussing?

Still CUAP,Marvin cut straight to the chase. Since Hilltop Tech is a dead end, what’s your next move? What did Alpha Archer say?

Archer said he would help me contact Marcus. Her tone was controlled, the slight heat from her scent gland firmly suppressed.

Marcus held a very high position in the AI field, and his schedule was always confidential.

Elmer was one of his few students, and it’s rumored that CUAP came from Marcus’s team.

Since the Elmer route was blocked, reaching out to Marcus was the necessary option.

Sounds good,Marvin nodded, but he was still worried. Elmer is Marcus’s student. If he badmouths you to Marcus, could that affect things?

That’s unlikely,Daphne interjected. Marcus values talent above all else. Camille is a genius. As long as she gets a faceto- face meeting, her skill is likely to earn her direct approval and an exception to join the core team.

Marvin smiled too. That’s true.

Daphne asked, Did Alpha Archer say when you might be able to meet Marcus?

Camille took a sip of water. The tech expo next week. Marcus will be there.

They knew about the expo, of course; Haines Group wasn’t highprofile enough to get official entry spots.
