Chapter 45
Third Person’s POV
Getting a meeting with Marcus wasn’t exactly easy, but it wasn’t impossible for Elmer either.
Sure enough, soon after Marcus left the main hall, Elmer received a text. He quickly took Melanie to meet Marcus outside by the parking lot.
Marcus saw them approach and raised his eyes in acknowledgment.
Melanie stopped. “Professor…”
Marcus gave a brief “Mhm,” his voice measured.
“I looked at your exhibit. It’s above the pass line… but,” his gaze swept over both of them, “three years later, is this truly all you could manage?”
Elmer and Melanie both stiffened.
Elmer quickly replied, “The new version is already in development. We can show a prototype next year.”
“Mhm,” Marcus responded dryly, then added, “Until you have significant, tangible results to show, don’t bother coming to see
me again.”
They both responded, “Understood.”
Marcus added one more instruction. “Write up a technical summary of the exhibits tonight. Send it to me.”
They immediately understood he wanted a systematic technical breakdown and professional analysis of the projects presented today.
“Understood.”
Elmer cautiously tried to negotiate. “Professor, one night… that might not be enough time.”
He knew well that with the number of exhibits and the complexity of the technology, they were looking at tens of thousands of words of deep analysis.
“How about a month… would that work?”
Marcus didn’t reply, just stared at them.
He didn’t even project his Alpha aura, but the pressure was overwhelming.
Elmer immediately straightened up. “Understood, we’ll finish it on time!”
Melanie simply nodded, tightly pressing her lips together.
The discussion was mostly done. At this point, Marcus looked at Melanie.
She immediately held her back straight and cautiously spoke. “Professor…”
Marcus glanced at her and coldly dropped his final word: “The mate you chose is truly disappointing.” Then he turned and walked away.
Melanie froze for two seconds.
Elmer murmured, “He was talking about your mate.” The meaning was clear: Look at the person you tied yourself to.
“Did they talk?” she asked.

They were far from the front row in the meeting hall. All she saw was Archer and Camille rising to greet him as he took his seat. She didn’t know what they said.
Elmer shook his head. “I don’t know.”
Not far away, Camille and Daphne also happened to see them speaking with Marcus.
Watching Marcus walk away, Daphne told Camille, “Don’t worry about it. She doesn’t have your professional expertise. Knowing Marcus won’t help her, and she’ll never be one of his students.”
Camille nodded. “I know. Let’s go.”
Melanie and Elmer weren’t planning to leave. This kind of event was perfect for peer networking, and they didn’t want to miss
out.
They returned to the exhibition area.
At one point, they passed Archer’s group, but no one greeted the other side. To anyone watching, they were complete strangers.
Camille’s group hadn’t left either.
Melanie thought back to the jewelry store, where Marvin proactively approached her, claiming he “cared about her.” Yet, seeing her several times at this formal event, he hadn’t offered a single word of concern.
Melanie found it pathetic. She knew exactly why.
Camille was present, and everyone now knew Marvin was Camille’s father.

If he had walked over to acknowledge Melanie, and someone traced the connection back to her being Archer’s mate, what justification would he have for standing with Camille?
Camille herself could have been buried under public scrutiny.
Clearly, Marvin’s favoritism for Camille was completely shameless.
However, Melanie’s emotions weren’t significantly affected. Since her mother was kicked out of the Blackthorn Pack, she no longer cared about the Blackthorn bloodline in her veins.
Once she officially severed the mating bond with Archer, she would fully return to the Red Rose Pack. (1
Marvin didn’t want to be associated with Melanie in public, but he didn’t want to miss the chance to network with Elmer either.
So, while Melanie was in the restroom, he, Camille, and Daphne walked over to Elmer.
He introduced himself. “Mr. Boyd, hello. I’m Camille’s… and Melanie’s father, Marvin. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Elmer politely shook his hand. “The pleasure is mine.”
Marvin glanced at Camille. “Melanie has a stubborn streak, and there’s a misunderstanding between her and Camille. As her father, I always hoped they would get along, but unfortunately, Melanie refuses to communicate…”
Elmer nodded. “I see…”
Marvin sighed, then smiled. “However, Melanie has met a talented young leader like you. As her father, I’m happy tor her. I heard she joined your company. I hope you’ll look out for her.”
