Chapter 52
Melanie’s POV
The elevator doors slowly slid shut, swallowing both of them into that small box.
In the final second before they closed completely, Camille turned her head and smiled at him. The image flashed across my vision, like a fine needle piercing my eye.
Frost lowered her growl and said, “They look very happy.”
My hand, hanging at my side, clenched into a fist, then slowly relaxed.
When the next elevator arrived, my phone rang. It was Trista.
I nodded to my coworkers, stepping aside to answer. “Hello.”
“Mommy, are you done with work yet? When are you coming home?”
Hearing her voice, the tightness in my throat loosened a little.
Since I twisted my ankle a while ago, she had been calling almost every day.
When she found out I could walk normally again, she asked last night when I would return to stay with her.
I was wrapping up a project and was too busy last night, so I had to say “another day.”
Hearing her ask now, I glanced at the digital clock on the wall. “I just finished up. I’ll be home in a little while.”
“I’ll wait for you,” she said seriously on the phone.
As I hung up, the elevator reached our floor.
Dominic looked at me, a knowing half–smile on his face. “Ms. Willis, do you have children?”
“Mhm,” I nodded.
“I never would have guessed…”
He casually followed up, “Does your husband also work in our field?”
As the elevator doors opened, I stepped in and answered coolly, “Sort of.”
Frost let out a soft, cold laugh in my consciousness. Yes, “sort of.”
I lifted my hand and pressed the floor button, my eyes fixed on the closing doors. I didn’t elaborate.
Dominic clearly wanted to talk more, but I didn’t engage.
He was smart.
Seeing my reluctance, he knew when to back off.
Elmer, standing beside me, gave me a subtle look that said, “I know, but I won’t say anything.”
I knew him. Given his personality, he would usually just blurt out the truth.
But he didn’t say a word.
Because I had filed for the mating bond severance, and 1 would still be working with Dominic’s team on the next project.
If I revealed my identity now, everyone would be confused about how to treat me as the Luna, or as an external collaborator

More practically, if I were publicly labeled as “Archer’s ex–Luna,” it was likely someone would try to sabotage my work to get on Camille’s good side.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, silence was the best choice.
He only gave my fingers a light squeeze as we parted, a silent signal of support.
We left swift Tech and got into our separate cars.
I drove along the border of the Razor Pack territory. As I crossed the faint energy line of the boundary barrier, the air immediately changed.
The familiar pack scent layered on. The patrolling wolf’s aura gave a soft tap in the distance, quickly recognized my pheromones, and backed off.
As I turned onto the private road leading to the Alpha territory, the Alpha villa came into view.
The house stood high up, light pouring out of the tall picture windows, like the slow, steady beat of the pack’s heart.
I saw a small figure standing on the steps in the distance.
Trista was holding the railing, her ears slightly perked, looking out.
She first sniffed the air, and only after confirming my scent did she hear the car. The next second, her eyes lit up, and she practically tumbled down the steps. “Mommy!”
I got out of the car. My boot heel made a soft sound on the stone steps. I reached out to steady her shoulders. “Mhm.”
My fingers gently rubbed the crown of her head, my thumb brushing the soft pup–cowl. I was about to ask if she was hungry, but she looked down at my ankle first.
“Mommy, are you really all better?”
Her voice held a mixture of sincerity and caution.
“Yes, I am,” I said.
“Where was it hurt? Let me see.”
“No need to look, it’s fine now.”
“Just let me see, please.”
She tugged on my arm, her tone soft but insistent.
I had no choice. I swapped into indoor slippers at the door, then held out one foot, pointing to my ankle. “Right here”
Trista crouched down, examining it very seriously.
She leaned in close, her breath tickling my skin. “I can’t see any injury…”
“The swelling is gone, so of course you can’t see anything”
As I spoke, I could feel her pheromones gently wrapping around me the faint, milky scent mixed with citrus that only pups
have.
It was clean and light, quickly spreading through the small space of the foyer, chasing away the coldness of the outside wind
“Oh…”
She looked up and smiled at me, her tiny canines showing “Mommy, since you’re better, don’t stand too long I already had the omgea prepare dinner. Let’s go eat.”
