The Breaking Point of Mate: Giving Up on My Alpha novel Chapter 56

at aloofness wasn’t intentional coldness; it was a subtle, invisible boundaryshe wouldn’t cross it, and she didn’t want him crossing it either.

He instinctively blamed it on the awkward encounter at the racetrack. Seeing her leave, he simply nodded and didn’t try to stop

her.

As Melanie walked away, Elmer came out with his plate. He glanced at the people at her former table. Who was that?

When he waved earlier, Dwight’s back was to him.

From a distance, he just saw the broadshouldered back of a man and a child sitting next to him. He assumed they were just random guests sharing a table.

But seeing Melanie go over and talk to them, they couldn’t be total strangers.

Dwight,she explained simply.

Dwight?Elmer raised an eyebrow, surprised. I thought you two weren’t close. Why were you sitting together?

His niece fell into the hot springs pool. I happened to see it and pulled her out,Melanie explained calmly. He brought the child over to thank me.

Oh, I see.

Melanie had said she was here with coworkers, so Dwight naturally assumed the person who waved at her was just a colleague.

He hadn’t bothered to look back. Only after she and Elmer had walked away did he happen to catch the back of a tall, young man.

By his posture and aura, he looked quite compatible with her.

The distance between them as they walked sidebyside was neither too close nor too far, but it suggested a good relationship- at least, much more natural than when she was sitting across from him.

Uncle-

Myra’s sweet, childish call pulled him back to reality.

All done eating? Shall we go upstairs?

Sure.

Dwight hadn’t come down just to eat. He put down his napkin and led Myra toward the elevators.

Back in her room, Melanie planned to spend some time on the balcony, enjoying the breeze and flipping through the book she brought

She had barely opened the book when her phone vibrated. A familiar number flashed on the screenArclwr.

He was always the only contacts me when he needs somethingtype

Her chest involuntarily tightened a little, but she quickly took a smooth breath, pressing the answer button. Her voice was calm, almost businesslike. Hello.

The man’s low voice came through, very brief Grandma wants us back for dinner tomorrow night

She paused. Okay, I see.

He hung up immediately.

No small talk, no asking how she was doing lately.

The record in her call log just lay there, looking like a notification he sent off after checking his schedule.

Melanie didn’t dwell on it. She put the phone aside and refocused on the book.

That night, she slept surprisingly well.

She woke up very early the next morning.

The biological clock from years of matching her Alpha’s routine still remained. Even though she was no longer the Luna of the Razor Pack, the habit of getting up first to check the surroundingshadn’t completely faded.

She went to the gym for a run, letting the blood warm up her limbs again.

After cooling down, she went back to the spa area, choosing a relatively quiet pool to sit in.

Just then, a woman in her forties or fifties walked up, holding Myra’s hand. Melanie had seen her yesterday; she seemed to be the nanny hired to look after Myra.

She had been the one who’d lost track of Myra yesterday after being distracted by an urgent phone call.

If Melanie hadn’t been by the pool, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Seeing Melanie now, she rushed to thank her again.

Melanie replied, No need to thank me.

She assumed Myra wouldn’t dare get back in the water so soon.

But perhaps Dwight had helped her conquer her fear. Myra held the nanny’s hand with one hand and a swimming float with the other. She tested the water with her foot and slowly got in.

A moment later, she kicked her legs and paddled toward Melanie. Auntie-

Melanie turned her head. What is it?

Myra didn’t speak again. She was in a good mood, just circling around Melanie.

The nanny chuckled. Myra really likes you.

Melanie smiled and didn’t say much.

The company had another event soon, so she had to leave.

Before getting out of the water, she said goodbye to Myra.

But Myra reached out her arms to her Auntie, hug me.

She lifted the child out of the water

She took the towel the nanny offered and roughly dried the water droplets on her baly

After putting on a dry robe, it was still early she held the child and walked toward the elevator, intending to park ways oneR reached the floor.

Near the elevator doors, a figure quickly approached

Dwight walked over from the other side, his eyes immediately going to Myra

Myra’s sinall, fair face instantly broke into a wide, innocent smile. Uncle!

Dwight walked over and reached out to take her from Melanie’s arms.

Myra was reluctant to let go, pulling toward her uncle but simultaneously hooking her arms tightly around Melanie’s neck.

As a compromise, she only offered one arm.

Dwight had to halfhug and halfcarry her.

In that awkward moment, her other small hand was tightly clutching the collar of Melanie’s robe.

With a tug and a pull, the robe was yanked down sharply.

Melanie was completely unprepared. The neckline instantly tore open, revealing the blue lace set underneath

Chapter 56

Third Person’s POV

The delicate line of her shoulders, the clean, full curve of her chest, and the sharp tuck of her waist were suddenly exposed, highlighted by the morning light and the steam.

The moment the robe was yanked open, the scent that had been suppressed by the fabric also escapedit wasn’t just shower gel or hot spring water; it was the shewolf pheromones, now activated by the heat.

It carried a cold, moonlight quality and a slight, contained sharpness, like a blade slipping beneath the surface of the water.

Everyone froze.

Melanie’s face flushed hot, even the tips of her ears burning. She instinctively reached out and pulled the torn robe closed.

Dwight’s eyes darkened.

The burst of pheromones hitting him with the steam made the wolf inside him surge up-

Alpha wolves are inherently possessive, and they react more acutely to powerful shewolves.

Normally, a marked Luna would clearly carry her mate’s scent, mixed with the pack’s base note.

But what he smelled right now was an extremely clean shewolf scent.

That residual trace of a mating bond was so faint it shouldn’t have been present on a current Luna.

His wolf instinctively lunged forward, letting out a deep, internal growl, an explosion of possessive agitation deep in his bones.

At the same moment, his rational Alpha side clenched his shoulders, forcefully crushing the nearly overflowing Alpha aura back

down.

He immediately turned to the side, looking away, his posture rigid.

The nanny next to him was mortified. She rushed forward to help Melanie straighten her robe, repeatedly whispering, I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.

Luckily, there were no other guests near the elevators right then, or the scene would have been far worse.

Melanie had never been so exposed in front of any man other than Archerand this man was Archer’s friend.

The thought made her chest tighten, and she felt completely ill at ease.

After fixing her robe, her expression was still strained. I have to go. See you.

Only then did Dwight turn back, his voice low and constrained. I apologize.

Myra realized she had done something wrong. Her previously cheerful little face crumpled.

Thinking she had made Melanie angry, her eyes quickly filled with tears. She whispered an apology, I’m sorry, Auntie

Melanie knew Myra hadn’t meant it.

She couldn’t, and wouldn’t, take her embarrassment out on a little girl.

It’s fine, she said, suppressing her distress, keeping her tone as gentle as possible. I know it was an accident

She offered a faint smile, waved at Myra, and turned to get into the elevator.

The elevator doors slowly closed, the glass reflection cutting them off from the group outside.

Outside the door, Dwight held Myra and said softly, Don’t ever pull on someone’s collar again, okay?
