The Breaking Point of Mate: Giving Up on My Alpha novel Chapter 60

Third Person’s POV

Melanie’s phone rang. She answered, Monica.

Monica asked if she was free to come over for dinner later.

Melanie glanced at Moira on the sofa. I’m with Trista at Moira’s place right now.

Based on their earlier conversation, Moira wanted them to stay and help her pick fruit in the orchard behind the estate later.

Moira, hearing Melanie talking to Monica, said, Bring Trista back with you.

She then looked at Archer. You haven’t seen Monica in days either. Since you have time now, go back with them.

Archer was eating his breakfast, his voice flat. I have something scheduled later.

His tone was so even it sounded like he was stating a fact that had been booked weeks ago.

Melanie wasn’t surprisedit was exactly what she expected.

When it came to her, Archer was always too busy; when it came to Camille, he could always adjust his schedule.

That was the difference.

Moira’s face darkened. What could be so important? How long has it been since you went back with Melanie-

Melanie cut her off, her expression calm. It’s fine. If Archer has plans, Trista and I can just go by ourselves.

Moira, seeing Melanie’s consistent willingness to accommodate Archer, looked both worried and resigned.

In her eyes, the balance in this Alpha and Lunapairing was always maintained unilaterally by Melanie.

The matter was settled.

After breakfast and a brief chat with Moira, Melanie got ready to leave with Trista.

Moira had the omgea servants bring out several gift boxescoffee, wine, and a few small treats she knew Monica likedasking Melanie to take them along.

This kind of gesture from an elder couldn’t be refused, so she accepted all the gifts.

Archer hadn’t left yet. He and Moira walked them to the door.

Trista hugged Archer’s legs on the steps. Daddy, will you be home tonight?

Archer ruffled her hair. Yeah.

From start to finish, Melanie and Archer had practically zero interaction.

She simply leaned down to help Trista into the car, buckled her in, waved to Moira, and drove away.

In the rearview mirror, she saw Archer and Moira standing sidebyside, watching the car leave.

When they arrived at the Red Rose Pack, the yard wasn’t huge, but it was meticulously kept. The familiar scent of the pack and the autumn wind blowing across the lawn calmed the wolf inside her a little.

Monica and Prunella came out to meet them. Prunella was Melanie’s aunt.

Seeing the trunk nearly full of gifts, Monica frowned, Why did you bring so much?

Moira asked me to bring them to you.

Since Melanie mated with Archer, Monica and Moira’s interactions had become less frequent.

Hearing the explanation, Monica didn’t say more about it, just asked Prunella to take the boxes inside.

Melanie looked up and saw scaffolding on the villa across the street. Construction vehicles were lined up, and workers were busy painting and replacing windows. The entire house was undergoing major renovation.

She seized the chance to change the subject. Is someone moving in across the street?

Looks like it,Monica nodded. They started work last week. The construction crew said the owner is in a big rush to move in.

Prunella, helping to carry the gift boxes from the trunk, sighed. I hope they’re easy to get along with.

If the newcomers were unreasonable, life could get tough.

Especially since this area was a mixed zone of werewolves and humans, sometimes even a pheromone clash could spark a neighborhood dispute.

Inside, the kitchen was warm and smelled of soup.

Prunella brought out a pot of chicken soup she had made specially for Melanie, filled with carrots and celery, clearly slow- simmered for hours. I heard you’ve lost weight lately. I cooked this for hours. Take some home tonight, too.

Melanie took the bowl, the familiar aroma of the soup warming her. Okay, thank you.

Chad was busy with work and didn’t get home until dinner time.

Thinking of how her actions led to Elmer blocking Camille from Hilltop, which then involved Archer and cost Chad a potential project, Melanie felt guilty. Uncle, I’m sorry about what happened last time.

It’s fine. It’s over,Chad said, his tone even. I told you, even without the Blackthorn Pack’s involvement, the Willis Group wasn’t ready to handle that project in its current state. Don’t blame yourself.

This absolutely couldn’t get back to Monica.

If she learned Archer was sabotaging the Willis Group for Camille’s sake, she would be furious.

Seeing Moira approaching from the hallway, Chad gently nudged Melanie, signaling her to drop the subject.

She understood immediately, smoothly diverting the conversation, hiding the unpleasant truth deep in her throat as if nothing had happened.

Next month was Monica’s seventieth birthday.

After dinner, only the floor lamps were on in the living room, bathing everyone in a soft, warm glow,

Melanie and Chad sat on either side of Monica, discussing how to plan the celebration and what kind of party she would like best.
