Lily's face twisted with humiliation and rage. She shot Alaina a vicious glare before turning indignantly back to the older woman. "I will never accept her as the lady of the Summers family. Never."
"Excuse me?" Great-Aunt Rosemary narrowed her eyes in displeasure.
"Great-Aunt Rosemary, don't you see this is all her scheme?" Lily's voice escalated in panic. "Do you even know who she is? She's Ethan Harrington's ex-wife! She hates Ethan for divorcing her, she hates him for still loving me, and she hates that I'm better than her in every way. She deliberately went after Silas. She married him just to get revenge, to humiliate me, and to destroy our family!"
Great-Aunt Rosemary's expression remained completely unbothered. "She's no longer involved with Ethan Harrington. Doesn't that work out perfectly for you?"
Lily was stunned, entirely caught off guard by the reaction.
Great-Aunt Rosemary had always placed immense importance on Silas's marriage prospects. How could a woman with a divorce under her belt possibly be acceptable to her?
"Don't you believe me? You've always adored me, and now you won't even listen to me?" she demanded, a mix of grief and fury in her voice.
"I have known she was Ethan's ex-wife from the beginning, and I am well aware of the history between all of you," Great-Aunt Rosemary replied coldly. "Look at the family you belong to. Based on everything you know about Silas, do you honestly believe he is foolish enough to be used?"
Lily froze again, completely at a loss for words.
Great-Aunt Rosemary offered a small smile, walking over to take Alaina's hand. It was a physical testament to her trust and respect.
"Lily, I usually overlook your tantrums because they are trivial," Great-Aunt Rosemary said strictly. "But the reality is standing right in front of you. Stop acting out over petty grudges. Ruining the peace in this family is not a price you want to pay. Do you understand?"
Lily's face drained of all color, pale as a ghost. Her lips trembled, and her teeth audibly ground together.
Her pupils dilated in absolute shock, her entire body shaking uncontrollably as her fingertips twitched with manic anxiety.
Biting her lip, she stumbled backward and bolted from the room without looking back.
She couldn't accept this.
