The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 124

Lily bit her lip hard. She had spent the last few days thinking things through, and she knew throwing a princess tantrum wouldn't get her anywhere.

Silas Summers had taught her well: the worse the situation, the more ruthlessly calm you have to be.

Only those with ice in their veins could turn the tables.

She wasn't going to sit around waiting for doom to strike. She would take back everything she had lost.

"I understand," she nodded. "You go back first. Silas wants me to stay here and reflect on my mistakes."

Ethan nodded. "Don't worry, Silas won't hold a grudge forever. Your birthday is right around the corner, which gives everyone a perfect excuse to smooth things over."

Lily stared right through him. "Don't worry about me. I have a friend I need to go see."

Ethan patted her shoulder awkwardly. Cradling the precious gift box in his hands, he turned and walked away.

...

Meanwhile, at the safehouse.

The moment Alaina's feet touched the floor and she tried to stand, fiery agony ripped through her entire body.

Seeing the ugly purple and blue bruises mottling her limbs, she gritted her teeth, leaning heavily against the furniture as she dragged herself out of the room and painstakingly navigated the stairs.

When she finally made it to the ground floor, her eyes scoured the room for a specific silhouette.

"Silas?" she called out, but a sharp spike of pain in her ribs made her wince, forcing her to hunch over and clutch her side.

"Don't move."

Silas's deep voice sliced through the air.

She turned her head just in time to see him striding toward her. Without a word, he scooped her up into his arms, carried her over to the sofa, and gently set her down.

"Thank you," she said, her posture stiff and formal.

"The doctor will be here shortly. You should eat something first," Silas instructed.

She nodded.

Silas turned and disappeared into the kitchen, returning five minutes later with a steaming bowl of chicken soup.

"There are no maids at the safehouse, and our ingredients are limited, so you'll have to make do for now. Getting staff vetted takes time," Silas explained, pressing the warm bowl into her hands.
