Alaina didn't say a word; she just turned on her heel and sprinted away.
Silas was just about to march over and slam the bedroom door shut when he saw Alaina sprinting back, her arms loaded with a pile of medical supplies.
She dumped the antiseptic, gauze, and cotton swabs onto the bed.
Without a second of hesitation, she grabbed his wrist and firmly shoved him onto the edge of the mattress.
Silas's face was an absolute glacier. "I don't need this."
The second the words left his mouth, Alaina glared at him, her eyes flashing with fearless authority as she ordered, "Shut up."
Silas was so stunned he could only watch helplessly as she swiftly yanked the bathrobe off his shoulders.
"Don't move. Let me clean this up."
Alaina grabbed the antiseptic bottle, uncapping it quickly.
Seeing the wound up close made her hands start to tremble involuntarily.
The jagged gash across his shoulder was horrifically swollen and inflamed, a glaring testament to the fact that he had gritted his teeth and ignored it the entire ride home.
"How is this 'nothing' when you're bleeding this much? Your shirt was completely soaked through."
Her voice was rough, laced with a tightly restrained frustration. She didn't dare yell, terrified of triggering his explosive temper, but even more terrified of shattering the tough facade he was trying so desperately to maintain.
Taking a deep breath, she gently pressed a soaked cotton swab against the raw flesh.
Silas's shoulder twitched ever so slightly—not a violent flinch, just the uncontrollable reflex of damaged tissue reacting to the burn.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed down the sharp sting of pain, still refusing to make a sound.
Alaina's touch was unimaginably gentle as she painstakingly wiped away the dried blood surrounding the laceration. Her eyes remained locked on his face, obsessively tracking his micro-expressions, adjusting her pressure with every single pass.
"If it hurts, tell me," she whispered softly. "You don't have to play tough."
Silas kept his eyes cast down, his gaze fixed on the rug by the bed. The dangerous, predatory edge had completely melted from his features, leaving behind nothing but quiet submission.
"It doesn't hurt," Silas murmured, his voice incredibly soft. His back was perfectly straight, but the defensive hostility had vanished.
Alaina's hand stopped abruptly.
"You lost that much blood and completely ruined your shirt. How could it possibly not hurt?"
Silas turned his head to look at her. "That blood wasn't mine."
