Silas sat up straight, replying calmly and respectfully, "General, I am not anxious."
The General's expression suddenly turned serious. "Silas, you made a solemn pledge to me. The special team's mission is critical, and there is no room for error. I am ordering you right now to replace the head of the team. If you let personal feelings get in the way and disobey this order, I will discipline you along with her."
The atmosphere in the room instantly froze.
Alaina felt the immense pressure, her heart tightening as she couldn't help but look at Silas.
Silas kept his back straight, his tone remaining steady. "When I made that pledge, I said I would take full responsibility. I will accept the discipline, but I will not agree to replace her."
"Please don't discipline him," Alaina blurted out anxiously. "If you're doubting my health, I can make a pledge too. I can absolutely do this."
Silas turned to her, his eyes signaling her to stop talking.
The next second, the General laughed instead of getting angry.
Professor Rossi patted her husband's arm. "Look at you, teasing the young couple until they're all worked up."
The General looked at Alaina. "Alaina, Silas chose you for this role, and I trust his judgment. I don't care what others say; I only care if you can get the job done."
"I'm a direct person, so don't take offense. Since you've taken on this mission, just charge forward blindly. To put it bluntly, if you fall at this post, I'll build a memorial for you. But if you don't fall and you get the job done, I'll give you a medal."
His words were powerful, shaking Alaina to her core.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Professor Rossi swatted her husband again, then turned to Alaina. "Don't worry, my dear. We didn't know about your health condition before. When Silas came to me asking for recommendations for top doctors, I thought it was for someone else. Now that I know it's you, put your mind at ease. I come from a family of doctors, and I'll make sure the best specialists treat you."
"Thank you," Alaina nodded.
