Alaina nodded, telling Michelle to book a table at a nice restaurant, specifically requesting a Michelin-starred spot.
Michelle happily got to work, volunteering to request two security guards to tag along.
That evening.
Inside a private dining room at an exclusive restaurant.
The entire special research team was celebrating and cheering each other on for their current projects.
In another private room.
Lily Summers and her clique of friends were also gathered.
After seeing the messages in the work group at Apex that afternoon, Lily hadn't wanted to stick around for another second.
Sitting here now, she was still irritable, her face like a thundercloud.
"Don't be upset, Lily," one of her friends consoled. "Let that Alaina have her moment of glory. There will be plenty of chances to put her in her place later."
Lily's face was dark. "The whole of Apex treats her like a goddess now. It makes me sick."
The friends exchanged looks.
"That Rossi girl sure is tough to kill. She's got cancer and is still stirring up this much trouble. But Lily, you have to cover your tracks. The person you planted in the Security Administration got caught last time. You need to be careful not to leave any more evidence behind."
Lily nodded. "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. I won't make the same mistake twice."
"If you ask me, you don't even need to compete with her on this. So what if she's capable? At the end of the day, everyone will only remember that you are the CEO of Apex."
"Yeah, exactly. Stop sulking. When Ethan gets here later, you need to look gorgeous. Ethan finally cut ties with that bitch, so now it's all your time to shine."
Hearing this, Lily pulled out her compact mirror. "I'm going to the restroom to touch up my makeup." She stood up and left.
Two of the girls went with her.
The door opened and closed, leaving the remaining two whispering.
"It's hilarious seeing her eat dirt for once. What a rare sight."
