Ethan stumbled but steadied himself, remaining silent.
Alaina pressed down Michelle's phone and said softly, "Don't call the police. He's my ex-husband."
The word "ex-husband" shattered Ethan even more.
"Ex... ex-husband?" Michelle's eyes widened, looking back and forth between Ethan and Alaina.
"Ethan, I accept your apology," Alaina said coldly. "Like I said, let's just go our separate ways. I won't deliberately avoid you anymore, but just because I'm willing to talk to you doesn't mean I feel anything for you."
"I really know I was wrong," Ethan's face was full of agony. "I can't just pretend everything is in the past. I want to make it up to you."
Michelle scoffed from the side. "Make it up? Who cares about that? Our Boss is already remarried, and now you want to make it up? Where were you before?"
She pointed at Ethan. "Oh, I remember now. You're the general manager of Harrington Memorial Hospital, the one always on TV lately. Aren't you dating some heiress?"
Michelle recalled excitedly, "I remember, the heiress of Lockwood Holdings, Dr. Summers from Apex."
Then she looked at her boss. "So, the mystery woman who married the disabled executive in the news wasn't her, it was you, Boss!"
Alaina didn't deny it, signaling with her eyes for Michelle to calm down.
Ethan stared at Alaina with absolute obsession. "Can we just talk privately? I have so much I want to say to you."
"I don't need you to make anything up to me," Alaina said bluntly.
