The next morning, they drove to The Security Administration together.
Alaina got out of the car first, just as she always did.
She hadn't made it more than a few steps before she heard Silas quickly catching up to her.
Surprised, she turned around—only for Silas to take her hand in his.
Several colleagues walking in and out of the building caught sight of this. Their footsteps faltered, casting curious, stealthy glances in their direction.
Alaina's face instantly burned hot, and her first instinct was to pull her hand back.
But Silas only tightened his grip.
"What are you doing?" she whispered, her eyes widening.
Silas's voice was perfectly level, acting as if this was the most natural thing in the world. "If we're dating, we should hold hands out in the open."
She drew in a sharp breath. "We don't need to be this flashy about it. This is The Security Administration, aren't you worried people will accuse you of mixing business with pleasure again?"
Silas smirked, completely unbothered. "Then let them know you are my wife. There's no rule against office romances here."
Alaina frowned. "That's not what you told me before. We agreed that my title as your wife was just for show."
"I never said we couldn't go public. And even if I did, it wouldn't hurt to amend the rules." Silas looked at her with unwavering conviction. "Since we agreed to date, I won't tolerate any half-measures. If we can't acknowledge each other in front of everyone, that's a secret affair, not a relationship."
She bit her lip, completely silenced by his flawless logic. She could only let him hold her hand. The flush from her ears spread all the way to her cheeks, yet she couldn't help but secretly curl her fingers, holding onto his warm palm a little tighter.
He led her step by step into the building.
