Following his gaze, Alaina explained, "Oh, Michelle gave that to me. I haven't even opened it yet."
She stood and walked over to it.
The moment she opened the box and saw the seductive lingerie, her face burst into flames. The tips of her ears turned bright red as she scrambled to slam the lid shut.
Never in a million years did she expect Michelle's 'secret weapon' to be this. How was she supposed to explain this with Silas sitting right there?
She sneaked a panicked glance at him. "You... you didn't open it, did you?"
Silas gave a low hum of affirmation. Watching her squirm, his eyes brimmed with amusement. His Adam's apple bobbed slightly as his gaze dropped to her flushed profile.
Staring at the floor and gripping the box for dear life, Alaina stumbled over her words. "That girl just loves messing around. She gives the craziest things."
She immediately turned the blame on him. "This is your fault. How do you even conduct your interviews?"
He held her stare, utterly composed. "If you're unsatisfied with her performance, should I fire her?"
"There's no need to go that far," she replied, shaking her head vigorously. Biting her lip in defeat, she mumbled, "Never mind. I'm just going to take this upstairs."
Suddenly, his hand clamped around her wrist. His thumb lightly stroked her feverish skin. "You aren't going to try it on?"
Alaina's breath hitched as she met his darkened gaze. A smoldering heat burned within it—something both terrifyingly unfamiliar and wildly intoxicating. Her heart hammered erratically against her ribs.
Try it on? For who to see?
"Silas, you..."
Before she could finish, he shifted his weight toward her, forcing her to press her back flush against the sofa cushions. She swallowed hard, suddenly very nervous.
His palm radiated a scorching heat as it trailed slowly up her wrist, brushing past her forearm until his hand settled firmly on her waist. With an undeniable, commanding pressure, he pulled her closer.
The crisp scent of cedarwood enveloped her, mingling with his purely masculine aura. It completely short-circuited her ability to breathe.
"What... what are you doing?" she stammered.
