The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 218

Alaina turned her head to face him, the palpable anger rolling off him impossible to ignore. "What do you want me to say?"

Silas stared at the flushed tips of her ears. His Adam's apple bobbed as he remained silent for a beat, his voice dropping into a ragged, unconscious rasp. "If you have a problem, just spit it out. There's no need to sit there giving me an attitude."

Alaina's knuckles turned white as she crushed the fabric of her skirt, forcibly swallowing the bitter ache rising in her chest. "I'm not giving you an attitude, and I don't have a problem. You were the one who demanded we go back to normal. You wanted distance."

With that, she jerked her head back toward the window and cracked it open.

The night breeze squeezed through the gap, fluttering the loose hair against her cheek while dragging a suffocating tension through the cramped space.

Watching her deliberately dodge his gaze, that inexplicable, maddening frustration flared in Silas's chest again. He opened his mouth, the words hovering on his tongue, but he viciously choked them back down.

They arrived back at the estate.

Alaina hoisted the hem of her dress and practically jogged down the path toward the villa.

She just wanted to escape, lock herself in her room, and process the chaotic storm raging inside her head.

Of course, her heels had other plans. Her stiletto caught on a stone, and she pitched forward, plunging toward the hard pavement.

But the bone-crushing impact never came. Instead, a strong arm clamped around her waist, yanking her into a warm chest that smelled of cool pine.

Silas caught her flawlessly. The blistering heat from his palm seared through the thin satin of her dress, freezing her on the spot. Panicking, she scrambled to right herself and shoved against his chest to break free.

But Silas didn't let go. Instead, his arm coiled tighter, pinning her firmly against him. His deep voice rumbled dangerously close to her ear. "Your foot hasn't healed yet."

"Thank you, I've got it," Alaina said with forced politeness, aggressively wrenching herself out of his grip.

Without hesitating, she bent down, ripped off both heels, and marched barefoot across the cold stone path.

She barely made it two steps before a heavy hand clamped down on her wrist from behind.

It wasn't painfully tight, but the sheer, undeniable force dragged her right back against his scorching chest.
