The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 219

"I know you didn't want to force my hand. That's why you went to Julian," Silas said softly. "From start to finish, you never once begged me to show the Harringtons mercy. Because of that, I can no longer stand by and watch you tear yourself apart over this."

A sudden heat pricked at Alaina's eyes.

All the exhausting composure she had forced herself to maintain over the past few days crumbled, completely obliterated by the sheer, crushing relief surging from her chest.

Silas stroked the back of her hand gently with his thumb. "I've thought this through. If punishing the Harrington family means you suffer alongside them, and if this war creates a rift between us, then I would rather let them go."

Alaina whispered, "Silas, this isn't like you at all."

Silas tilted his head. "How so?"

She lifted her arms and wrapped them tightly around his neck, burying her chin in his shoulder. Unable to find the words to express the storm inside her, she could only manage a shaky, "Thank you."

His large palm rubbed soothing circles into her back as he murmured against her ear, "Don't thank me. Venting my anger is far less important than making sure you actually talk to me."

The ridiculous admission pulled a wet laugh from her lips, and she squeezed him even tighter.

A thoroughly satisfied smirk curved his mouth. "Say something back, will you? Otherwise, I look incredibly pathetic right now."

Alaina finally pulled back, resting her hands on his broad shoulders. She tilted her head, shooting him a cocky, teasing grin.

"That wasn't pathetic at all. That was the most attractive communication I have ever witnessed."

Silas stared at her intensely, fighting a losing battle to wipe the smug grin off his face.

He had been bathed in flattery and shallow praise his entire life.

Yet in this exact moment, that single sentence from her had him practically floating on air.

"Silas," Alaina whispered, her eyes shining with unshed emotion. "I want you to be kinder to yourself every now and then. Ever since we got married, you've fiercely protected me. You've given me an absolute sense of safety."

"Because of that, I want to protect you too. I want to take care of you. Promise me you won't say cruel things just to push me away ever again, okay?"

"Even though this whole thing started as a contract... I want..."

"Okay," Silas cut in, his eyes suspiciously glossy as he nodded with agonizing tenderness.
