Alaina finally laid eyes on her idol, Professor Laurent.
When Silas introduced her to Lucas, he explicitly introduced her as his wife, as well as a brilliant semiconductor researcher in her own right.
Alaina faltered for a fraction of a second, her ears burning at the unexpected title. But she recovered smoothly, extending a hand with practiced elegance and speaking in fluent English. "Professor Laurent, it's an absolute honor. Your *Foundations of Semiconductor Research* was my bible during my PhD. I owe a lot of my success to your work."
Lucas's eyes lit up with genuine appreciation. "Oh? That paper is a decade old."
He shook her hand firmly, studying her face for a moment. "It's rare to see young talent so invested in the fundamentals."
"A skyscraper crumbles without a solid foundation," Alaina replied earnestly. "Especially in our field."
Lucas beamed, turning to Silas with a teasing grin. "I have to admit, your wife is far more interesting than you are."
Silas's lips curved upward. He didn't deny it.
Alaina shot Silas a sideways glance, but the molten tenderness in his eyes forced her to look away, her cheeks warm.
The tour officially began.
As they walked, Lucas plunged into a rapid-fire debate with Alaina regarding the latest innovations in packaging technology. The two fired off complex jargon at blistering speeds, leaving virtually no room for anyone else to interject.
Silas stayed half a step behind, listening in quiet contentment.
Eventually, Lucas turned back to Silas, his expression turning strictly professional. "France is establishing a next-generation semiconductor R&D platform. If Apex is open to international collaboration, I'd be more than happy to facilitate the introduction."
Silas nodded slowly. "Any partnership hinges on mutual respect for technological sovereignty."
"Of course," Lucas agreed.
