Silas naturally took Alaina's hand.
His palm was broad and warm, his knuckles defined, carrying that steady, restrained heat he always had as he gently enveloped her hand in his.
There was no rushed pulling, only a smooth, reassuring guidance, leading her step by step away from the noisy campsite behind them.
Beneath their feet lay soft green grass, and occasionally they stepped on cool mossy stones. The stream babbled cheerfully, shattering the sunlight along the banks.
She glanced back over her shoulder, just able to make out the four figures under the canopy, the atmosphere looking both lively and painfully rigid.
"Julian really has the best temper," Alaina sighed softly, a tender smile in her eyes. "He obviously hates these blind dates, yet he stays perfectly polite and makes sure everyone feels comfortable. He's such a gentleman."
Silas held her hand as they strolled leisurely, his gaze on the flowing water. His expression was calm, his tone filled with absolute understanding. "He's gentle and introverted. He would never put anyone in a difficult position."
Alaina's eyes curved in amusement. "So, did he ever tell you what his actual type is?"
Silas turned to look at her. The sunlight danced across his striking features, adding a touch of warmth. "Are you trying to take a page from Aunt Rosemary's book and play matchmaker for Julian now?"
Alaina paused for a second before bursting into laughter. "I have barely any female friends. Even if I wanted to play matchmaker, I wouldn't have the resources."
Silas chuckled.
She thought about it for a moment. "Speaking purely from a woman's perspective, those three girls all have their unique charms. It just comes down to whether the chemistry is there."
Silas let out a low laugh, his chest rumbling slightly, his gaze filled with a gentle certainty. "You're only seeing Julian's polite, gentlemanly exterior. Deep down, his standards are incredibly high."
Hearing this, something sparked in Alaina's mind. Her eyes darted around, softening with curiosity as she asked quietly, "Speaking of which, Aunt Rosemary arranged plenty of blind dates for you in the past, didn't she? What were those women like?"
Silas stopped walking, a fleeting hint of amusement crossing his eyes.
"There were demure, rule-abiding heiresses from old money, social butterflies who knew how to navigate any elite circle, and scholarly types who carried themselves with a haughty, poetic grace." He summed it all up in a few sentences, his tone laced with mild mockery. "Every type you could imagine, checking every box, yet they were all just forced matches. Completely meaningless."
