The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 288

He looked down at the furious, heartbroken woman in front of him.

Taking in the lingering terror and hurt in her eyes, his Adam's apple bobbed. His voice was low and gravelly, stripped of all its usual dominance.

"I was careless."

"I calculated every risk and knew I could walk away unharmed, but I failed to account for your feelings. If I had just told you in advance, you wouldn't have had to face that fear alone."

He bowed his head, resting his forehead against hers in an incredibly vulnerable, genuine apology. "Please don't be mad."

Alaina pushed him away. "Enough. Stop talking. I just need to be by myself right now."

With that, she spun on her heel and marched off.

Zachary, sharp as ever, immediately jogged after her to ensure her safety.

Masking his emotions, Silas stayed behind just long enough to oversee the cleanup before departing.

Alaina didn't return to The Summers Estate. Instead, she headed straight for Professor Foster's home.

At the house, she masked her turmoil, simply claiming she missed her mentor and wanted to stay the night.

After eating the dinner Franklin prepared and chatting normally for a bit, she finally retreated to the guest bedroom.

Curling up under the blankets, she let the tears flow freely.

Late that night.

Logan knocked gently and slipped into the room. "Are you awake?"

"I'm asleep," she croaked, her voice thick from crying.

Logan didn't say a word. He shut the door and lay down next to her on top of the covers.

Alaina covered her face. "I'm fine. Go get some rest."

He pulled her hands away, taking in her red, puffy eyes. "Did Silas hurt you?"

Alaina shook her head. Sitting up against the headboard, she took a deep breath and slowly recounted everything that had happened.
