Alaina shook her head, a bittersweet smile playing on her lips.
"Tell me, why are you canceling the wedding?" Ethan pressed again, wanting to hear her answer.
Alaina bit her lower lip and crossed her arms. "I can have a wedding with a business partner, but I can't..."
She paused, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I refuse to walk down the aisle with this kind of mindset. There's nothing beautiful about it."
"Besides... I can't let myself entertain these inappropriate thoughts anymore. What I need to do right now is establish clear boundaries and stop falling for some ridiculous romantic fantasy."
"I need to focus on my life and cherish the time I have. Romance can only ever be a side dish; it can never be my main priority again."
As Alaina spoke, her emotions surged. Seeing Ethan's awkward expression, she quickly clarified, "Don't overthink this, and don't make it about you. I'm just... reminding myself of reality."
Ethan turned his face away, trying his best to hide the heartbreak in his eyes.
"Once bitten, twice shy, huh?" Logan sighed, intentionally shooting Ethan a pointed glare. "But what if Silas feels the exact same way about you? If you don't say anything, how is he supposed to know?"
Alaina remained silent.
Ethan shot a fierce look at Logan. "Can a word that comes out of Silas's mouth even be trusted? That's Silas Summers. He has a million tricks to make people fall for him, but he doesn't have a sincere bone in his body."
With that, he turned back to Alaina, his expression entirely serious. "Alaina, what I'm about to say comes from a place of zero selfishness. It's purely for your sake. You can fall in love with anyone you want; that's your freedom. Even as your... ex-husband, I have no right to tell you what to do."
"But please, don't fall for him. Silas is too dark and complicated. He doesn't deserve you."
Alaina didn't reply.
Logan stepped closer to Ethan. "Alright, boss. Whether he deserves her or not isn't up to you. I only brought you here so you could face reality for yourself. The past is the past, and you need to look forward and move on."
With that, Logan hooked an arm around Ethan's shoulders and forcibly dragged him toward the door.
"Both of you, keep this a secret. Do you hear me?" Alaina nervously called out after them.
The door clicked shut, and silence descended upon the lounge once more.
