Scattered across the mountainside, cows and sheep lowered their heads to graze on the fresh grass. The bells around their necks chimed crisply, echoing through the vast, empty valley and adding a soothing melody to the spring day.
Silas and Alaina strolled side-by-side along the lakeside path. There was no rushed itinerary, only the relaxed passage of time.
Silas kept a firm, warm grip on her hand, never once letting go.
The spring sun was soft and inviting, falling across his brow and shoulders. It washed away every trace of his sharp, intimidating edges, leaving behind a gaze full of absolute devotion.
Walking beside him, Alaina would occasionally stop to lean down and smell the wildflowers by the path, or look up to admire the distant snow-capped mountains and the lake. Her eyes were filled with a deeply healed, radiant joy.
"It's so beautiful here," Alaina murmured, her voice laced with pure delight.
She had seen the landscapes of Switzerland in picture books and videos before, but she had never imagined she would one day step into this springtime wonderland herself.
Silas turned his head to look at her. His gaze bypassed the breathtaking scenery around them and landed securely on her bright, smiling face. To him, the world's most beautiful landscape couldn't hold a candle to her.
He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, his voice low. "Wherever you want to go, whatever scenery you want to see from now on, I will take you there."
When they reached an open, sprawling meadow, Silas stopped and pulled her down to sit.
The fresh spring grass was soft and plush. Behind them stood the rolling snowy peaks, and before them lay the crystal-clear lake. The world around them was so peaceful that the only sounds were the whistling wind, the gentle lap of the water, and their own quiet breathing.
Alaina rested her head on his shoulder, gazing up at the flawless blue sky as she silently counted the drifting clouds.
Silas reached up and tenderly brushed a stray blade of grass from her hair. His fingers lightly stroked her locks with the utmost care and reverence.
"This feels like a dream," she sighed with a contented smile. "Silas, why don't we just retire right here and do nothing forever?"
Silas smirked, the corner of his mouth lifting. "Is Dr. Rossi saying she doesn't want to go back?"
